Shred Those Old Papers on May 4

Ocean City will hold its semi-annual Paper Shredding and Electronic Recycling Day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at the Shelter Road Recycling Center located off of Tennessee Avenue. The Shelter Road Recycling Center also will be open noon to 3 p.m. Friday, May 3, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 4, for Household Cleanup Days. Residents and homeowners can bring unwanted trash, furniture, cell phones and recycling. No contractors, construction or demolition debris, and no fluids, paints, or hazardous waste are permitted.

Theatre Company Announces 2019 Lineup

Tickets for 2019 Ocean City Pops Season on Sale Thursday

Tickets for all shows in the 2019 Ocean City Pops season will go on sale starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 25. Now in its 91st season, the local orchestra will share the stage this summer with a wide array of musical talents. The lineup promises something for fans of every kind of music. The season will include performances with special themes ranging from Broadway songs and full musicals, to patriotic classics, to movie themes and tunes, to a salute to the American Legion on its 100th anniversary.

Carol Heenan to Receive Community Award

Ocean City community member Carol Heenan will be receiving the John Kemenosh Memorial Award at The Flanders Hotel from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on May 2 for her service and dedication. Heenan, a longtime member of the Cape GOP, has spent most of her time helping the community and the Republican party since moving to Ocean City from Drexel Hill, Pa., over 40 years ago.

Chip Miller Amyloidosis Foundation Sets Three Fundraisers in Ocean City in...

The Chip Miller Amyloidosis Foundation will sponsor three events in Ocean City on July 19 and 21 to raise awareness and money for research of the rare disease. A surf fest will be held the morning of July 19, followed by a private outing in the evening at the OC Waterpark. Then on July 21, a skate fest will be held at the Ocean City Skatepark.

A.C. Electric Service Outages April 22-26

Atlantic City Electric will continue with service upgrades causing temporary power outages in different parts of Ocean City. Following are the locations and days for outages scheduled during the week of April 22 to 26.

Weather Watch: Heavy Rain, Flash Flooding

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch in effect for Ocean City from 2 p.m. Friday through Saturday morning. While flash flooding is a condition that typically occurs near rivers, Ocean City can experience similar conditions if heavy rain coincides with high tide. The latest forecast calls for heavy rain from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. Some localized spots in the region could see as much as 3 inches of rain, according the NWS notification. High tide on the bay side of Ocean City (at the Ninth Street Bridge) will be at 9:18 p.m. Friday.

Mayor’s Message: April 18

Keep an eye on the weather, Mayor Jay Gillian says of Easter weekend. In his mayor's message posted on the city's website, he noted that rain, wind and street flooding are possible starting Friday. Organizers are expected to decide Saturday on any potential weather delay for the Great Egg Hunt tentatively scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday on the beach between 11th Street and 14th Street. The forecast for Easter Sunday looks much better.

Ocean City Community Holy Week Services

All members of the community are invited to prepare for Easter by attending the annual Good Friday Service from noon to 3 p.m. at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Eighth Street and Central Avenue. Area clergy will preach on “The Seven Last Words of Christ.” Music will be presented by St. Peter’s Choir and soloists. The Ocean City Ministerium and Ecumenical Council are sponsors of this service. Worshipers are invited to come and go as their schedule permits or to stay for the entire service.

We are back in our Ocean City office! The fire took place on February 10th and the cleanup took longer than expected. We never actually saw a flame and just had smoke damage. With smoke damage, the entire building had to be cleaned, then painted. All of the insulation and duct work on one side of the building had to be replaced. As an insurance agent it is our job to be ready for disaster when it strikes. We are happy to report our phones were off only the Monday after the fire. As with Hurricane Sandy, we prepared for the event before it happened. We built the office in Marmora (on the mainland right outside Ocean City) 10 years ago because of growth and in case we could not get to the Ocean City office. For the last two months most of the Ocean City office has been working in the Marmora office in the conference room & on folding tables. Honestly, it worked really well!
