Library to Host Book Talk With White House Photojournalist

The Ocean City Free Public Library will host a book talk and signing with photojournalist Christy Bowe on Nov. 9. Not many people can say that their career has placed them center stage at as many historical happenings as Bowe, a member of the White House press corps.

Construction to Close 34th Street Between West and Asbury Avenues

Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 2, 34th Street in Ocean City will be closed between West Avenue and Asbury Avenue for sewer improvements by New Jersey American Water Co. This will be a 24-hour per day closure and is anticipated to last for at least two weeks, including weekends.

St. Peter’s Church Hosts Trunk or Treat on Saturday

St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Ocean City is holding a Halloween Trunk or Treat candy giveaway on Saturday, Oct. 30, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The location is the church's Wesley Avenue parking lot between Seventh and Eighth streets.

Halloween House Decorating Contest Results

Ocean City’s second annual Halloween House Decorating Contest included 42 entries, and judging took place this Wednesday and Thursday. A list of winners and participants is attached and available at www.ocnj.us/halloween, so everybody can check out all the homes and businesses that were decorated in the spirit of the holiday.

Special Weather Statement: Flood Advisory

A Coastal Flood Watch will be in effect for Ocean City from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday. A Wind Advisory for sustained easterly winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, and these winds will contribute to flooding conditions.

Halloween Events and Welcome Night

Ocean City’s 73rd annual Halloween Parade returns on Thursday (Oct. 28) and promises a great time for all. The event is a favorite on the fall calendar and features local children, families, bands, entertainers, businesses and organizations costumed for the occasion. The parade starts at 7:15 p.m. Thursday and proceeds down Asbury Avenue from Sixth Street to 11th Street.

Women’s Mental Health is Topic of Online Discussion Wednesday

The Ocean City Division of Social Services will present a free online discussion on women's mental health at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27.  Details follow on how to participate and ask questions.

Free Door Hangers Available for Homes Participating in Trick-or-Treating

Trick-or-treating hours for Ocean City will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31. Ocean City will make free door hangers available to identify every home that will put out Halloween treats. This system will make it easier for trick-or-treaters to find participating homes, and it will limit interactions with homes not participating. Details follow on where to get the door knockers.

Ocean City Girls Soccer Team Advances in S.J. Coaches Cup

The Ocean City girls soccer team defeated Clearview Regional, 3-0, Monday afternoon to advance to the semifinal round of the South Jersey Coaches Association Tournament. Scoring for the Red Raiders was the dynamic duo of Summer Reimet and Hope Slimmer. Reimet scored all three goals on three assists from Slimmer.
