Hooked on Houses

I am truly hooked on homes, especially coastal ones. In addition to having a passion for renovating & decorating homes, I admittedly have a guilty pleasure: I cannot stop looking into people’s windows. I want to see more. What lies behind the door at the top of that winding staircase? What type of table sits below that glowing chandelier? Open concept floor plan? Kitchen Island? Is there a great sunset from that rooftop deck? Does any old beach house charm still exist inside? How did they infuse character into that new build? Is the interior décor as modern as the exterior?...

Please Recognize All Heroes this Memorial Day Weekend

We thank and honor all HEROES who have served our country and continue to serve. We also want to thank all designated drivers who will get their families and friends home safely today and every day. YOU are our HEROES too!

The Crowds Are Out Making The Best of the Holiday Weekend

When the weather forecasters are wrong, and wrong in our favor, we have an obligation to take advantage. That seemed to be the prevailing attitude for this Memorial Day weekend in Ocean City. Saturday resembled a mid-summer beach day and Sunday’s slight overcast is a far cry from the predicted washout. Thousands of shoppers crowded Asbury Avenue and the surrounding side streets, searching for bargains or the perfect gift...

Mayor’s Update: May 25, 2018

As we reach Memorial Day Weekend, the Fourth Ward drainage project is still not complete and roads that have been excavated to install a new storm drain system are still not paved. I can assure you that – aside from the neighbors who have put up with this major construction project for more than a year now – nobody is more frustrated with this failure to meet deadlines than I am. The city team is using every available tool to make sure the construction company meets its contractual obligation to finish this job quickly and properly. It’s been reported to me that workers on the job are telling residents that work will not resume until after Labor Day. That is not the case. The project will continue until the job is done and done right...

OCHS Key Club St. Baldrick’s Day Fundraiser Friday May 25th

The Ocean City High School Key Club will host its second annual St. Baldrick’s Day event for the benefit of childhood cancer research on Friday May 25 during community lunch in the main gym. Male teachers will be shaving their heads (Dan Weaver and David Uhrich and possibly a surprise female will join them) to raise awareness for the need for research funding and to stand in solidarity with the children who do not have a choice as to whether or not they lose their hair...

Ocean City’s Third Grade Engineers Click It, Build Landmarks

“If you build it, they will come,” professed the famous movie catchphrase. Last night the Ocean City Primary School engineers from the third grade proved that if you Click It, they will build. This particular field of dreams came in the form of the inaugural “Click It Youth Engineering Fair”. It played out before a large crowd in the atrium just outside the entrance to the Ocean City Free Public Library and Arts Center. And what was built? Local landmarks such as Lucy the Elephant and the Ocean City Music Pier; national ones like the Golden Gate Bridge and iconic world landmarks including the Great Wall of China and the Great Pyramid. The goal is to foster the elementary students’ engineering skills in a friendly free design competition...

Flanders’ Penthouse Suites: An Ocean City Hidden Treasure

They are the most opulent spaces in one of Ocean City’s most exclusive places. The Penthouses at the Flanders Hotel are extravagance on top of luxury. For those seeking the cushiest temporary digs in Ocean City, or for that matter anywhere along the Jersey Shore, the Flanders Penthouses are just the thing. “The finest accommodations in Ocean City, there’s no question about it,” said Peter Voudouris, Director of Hotel Operations. If Voudouris sounds slightly biased, a tour of the five swanky Penthouses has a way of turning your thinking around...
