Father’s Day Weekend Gets Off to Sunsplashed Start in OC

It was a perfect day for Dad to go fly a kite. Or for him to fly ON one. Both activities were in full effect, as were many others Saturday as Father’s Day weekend kicked off in Ocean City. Two men were seen controlling their kites on Park Place beach while two more floated by on parasail rigs. We’re not sure if any of the men were dads, but they seemed to be having fun either way...

Mayor’s Update: June 15

Dear Friends, City Council last night approved a smoking ban for all Ocean City beaches. The ordinance is fitting for “America’s Greatest Family Resort,” and I hope it will allow everybody to enjoy our beaches in the safest and healthiest way. My administration had drafted and recommended the amended local law, which now prohibits smoking on the beach, boardwalk and all public parks and recreational areas. During discussion of the new measure, members of council and the public raised concerns about enforcement, and they are legitimate. It’s not easy to patrol and prevent every infraction across eight miles of crowded summer beaches. But the new law will provide a tool to educate the public. I will instruct our police to ask smokers to stop and to warn them about the new law. The measure takes effect in 20 days, and I hope you all will bear with us during this first summer...

But on Tuesday, the sun came out, as did beach blankets, Spike Ball equipment, board shorts and bikinis. The Senior Weekers were making up for lost time...

It has been a whirlwind year for Bill and Amanda O’Connor. When we last checked in, the dynamic father-daughter duo was celebrating Amanda’s June 2017 graduation from Ocean City High School and preparing for a return to their native New York City. Today Bill, 55, is back to his career roots as a teacher in the New York Public Schools. A former Dean of Students at a public school, he was hired last summer as a financial literacy teacher at Horace Greeley Intermediate School in Astoria, Queens. Nineteen-year-old Amanda went back to chase her dream of an acting and singing career. She took a major step last week, signing her first recording contract with Los Angeles-based Parliament Records...
