Skateboarding Sensation Sky Brown to Lead Ocean City Baby Parade

Sky Brown, the 11-year-old skateboarding sensation with an international following, will appear in Ocean City Aug. 6 to 8 and will be the grand marshal of the 110th annual Ocean City Baby Parade. Sky will meet with fans and give skateboard and surfing demonstrations in addition to participating in the parade. She is a professional skateboarder and surfer from Miyazaki, Japan. With a Japanese mother and a British father, Sky chose to compete for Team Great Britain in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, making her the youngest athlete to compete there. She is also Great Britain's youngest Summer Olympian ever, and the youngest Olympic athlete since 1936.

O.C. 4th in Dutch Hoffman Lifeguard Races

Atlantic City took the title, while the Ocean City Beach Patrol placed fourth on Friday in the 50th Annual Dutch Hoffman Memorial Lifeguard Races in Wildwood. In what was arguably the most exciting race on Friday, OCBP veteran Bryan Theiss won the paddleboard race, barely edging out the Brigantine competitor to score five points.

OCFC Youth Fishing Tournament Aug. 10

Young anglers can show off their skills with rod and reel in the Ocean City Fishing Club's 44th annual Boys and Girls Surf Fishing Tournament on Saturday, Aug.10. Registration for the free event will begin at 9 a.m. at the north end beach near the Ocean City-Longport bridge.

Mayor’s Message: July 26

Mayor Jay Gillian said City Council has authorized a contract for ACT Engineers to develop a Flood Mitigation and Drainage Master Plan. The plan will include short-term and long-term strategies to increase flood resiliency in Ocean City, the mayor said in his weekly message to the public Friday. The flood-mitigation plan also will recommend partnerships and funding through the county, state and federal governments – and through research by institutional and academic groups.

O.C. Beach Patrol Women Race to Second Place; Harvey Cedars Takes...

The women of the Ocean City Beach Patrol rowed, swam, paddled and ran their way to a second place finish at the 2019 Ocean City Women’s Invitational Thursday night. Harvey Cedars took the team title and Cape May rounded out the top three. There was one point differential between each of the top three places. The races, held at 34th street in Ocean City, included female competitors from 16 South Jersey beach patrols — Harvey Cedars to the north through Cape May in the south.

OCHS Students’ Experiment Heads to Space

Earlier this year, Ocean City High School juniors Abigail Craige and Alexia Schmidt and sophomore Madison Morgan found out that their experiment involving brine shrimp was selected to go into outer space. The launch was scheduled Wednesday night. A link follows to watch the launch.

Chip Miller Amyloidosis Foundation Attracts Big Turnout for O.C. Events

Life is good. That’s what Chip Miller would always say. For a pair of recent fund-raising events in Ocean City hosted by the late National Corvette Hall of Famer’s namesake foundation, not only was it good, it was great. On Friday, July 19, the Chip Miller Amyloidosis Foundation welcomed hundreds of surfers and dozens more families for its 16th annual Surf Fest and fourth annual Slide for Amyloid and Taste of OC.

Emma Rodriguez Crowned Queen Infanta

In a tradition dating back to 1929, Ocean City has chosen a Queen Infanta to preside over the annual Baby Parade in August. Emma Rodriguez, a senior at Ocean City High School, was crowned 2019 Queen Infanta in a ceremony Tuesday at the Ocean City Music Pier. The Baby Parade will take place for the 110th time at 5 p.m. Aug. 11 on the Ocean City Boardwalk.

O.C. Tabernacle Features Ex-Baseball Star Darryl Strawberry on Sunday

Eight-time Major League Baseball All-Star Darryl Strawberry will speak at the Ocean City Tabernacle at the 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services on Sunday, July 28. Throughout his 17-year career, Strawberry played with the Mets, Dodgers, Giants and Yankees, winning four World Series titles and leading the National League in home runs in 1988 with 39. From battling cancer to substance abuse and addiction, his life has taken many turns. He is now an ordained minister.
