Ruth Graham Featured Speaker, Steve Green in Concert at O.C. Tabernacle

Ruth Graham, daughter of Ruth and Billy Graham, will speak at the Ocean City Tabernacle at the 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services Sunday, July 21. Graham brings a new Biblical perspective to her journey of faith, sharing her story of trials common to all -- her own divorce, her teenage daughter's two pregnancies, and going back to school at age 40. At 7 p.m. on Sunday, Steve Green will perform in concert at the Tabernacle. The son of missionary parents, Green was raised in South America. Throughout his 34 years of ministry, Green has been honored with four Grammy nominations, 18 No. 1 songs, seven Dove Awards, and has been inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame.

Blistering Heat Expected Through Sunday

The National Weather Service is warning of dangerously hot conditions starting Wednesday afternoon and continuing into Sunday, with temperatures soaring well into the 90s. Heat advisories and excessive heat warnings may need to be expanded and extended as we go through the week. Heat Index values will range from 100 to 105 Wednesday and Thursday and from 105 to 110 on Friday through Sunday. The highest heat index values are expected to occur on Saturday.

Exchange Club of Ocean City Holds Annual Fishing Tournament July 20

On Saturday, July 20, the Exchange Club of Ocean City is hosting its 33rd Annual Boat-Only Fishing Tournament. The registration fee is $175 to compete for money and prizes. Top Prize for each category of Flounder and Bluefish is $1,000. Second Place is $500. Third Place is $300. Fishing is 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Awards and barbecue will follow at 5 p.m. at Tight Lines Bait and Tackle, 820 Bay Ave., in Somers Point.

O.C. Fine Arts League Announces Art Show Winners

The Ocean City Fine Arts League announced the winners in the “Jersey Shore” Art Show and Exhibition for July and August. First place: Donna Mindish, Northfield, “OC Beach and Boardwalk at Sunset,” pastel. Second place: Donna Moore, Ocean City, “59th St. Pier,” black and white photo. Third place: Dana Shepard, Ocean City, “Drift Away,” driftwood and fused glass.

Bike Auction and Surf Fest in Ocean City

The City of Ocean City will hold its annual Bicycle Auction 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, July 17, at the Shelter Road Recycling Center at 1 Shelter Road (off Tennessee Avenue). The city lets anybody bid on used bicycles that have been deemed by the Ocean City Police Department to be abandoned or unclaimed. Approximately 100 bicycles and other items will be for sale. In a typical auction, successful bids range from $1 to $350. The event provides a great opportunity to purchase bikes at low cost. Registration for the auction begins at 9 a.m., and a driver’s license, passport or valid ID is required to register. A listing of other upcoming Ocean City events in July follows.

O.C. Fishing Club Offers Tours For Good Cause

Tour the Ocean City Fishing Club Pier at the Boardwalk and 14th Street from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and help the local food bank at the same time. The Fishing Club invites visitors to bring non-perishable food to be donated to the Ocean City Food Cupboard. Cash donations also will be accepted and given to the organization, which helps the needy. Last year, 1,346 visitors brought 453 pounds of food and donated $678 to the Food Cupboard during the pier’s two open houses.

Night In Venice 2019 Winners Announced

Night In Venice winners were announced Sunday by Ocean City. Prizes can be picked up on the ground floor of City Hall 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. All boaters who participated in the parade are also invited to pick up complimentary photos of their entries in the parade. A listing of all the winners follows.

Beach Patrol Races Showcase Ocean City’s Female Lifeguards

On Wednesday, July 10, Longport held its annual Women's Lifeguard Races. The event showcased the talents of beach patrols from Atlantic and Cape May counties in five events: Doubles Row, Swim, Paddleboard, Singles Row and the Surf Dash. After winning the event in 2017 and 2018, second place Ocean City Beach Patrol was narrowly defeated by one point by this year's winner, Wildwood Crest.

Mayor’s Message: July 12

In his weekly message to the public, Mayor Jay Gillian is inviting everyone to have a good time at Saturday's Night In Venice boat parade along the bayfront and the fireworks display afterward. He is also urging all motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians to use extreme caution on streets and sidewalks that are sure to be crowded. The Ocean City Police Department will be highly visible along the parade route and streets surrounding the area. In addition, police will patrol the lagoons and surrounding streets during the day, the mayor noted.

Mayor’s Update on Trash, Recycling Pickup Delays

Mayor Jay Gillian says the city is working with its waste-hauling contractor to resolve "major" delays with trash and recycling collection. The city is doing everything in its power to compel the company to meet its contractual obligations, the mayor said in a statement Thursday. To catch up on the delays, the company is adding trash and recycling trucks until its fleet is nearly double the size it was earlier this week, he said.
