OCHS Football Seniors Remotely Lauded During Quarantine

When New Jersey schools were forced to close as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ocean City High School football coach Kevin Smith knew the program would face some new challenges. However, schools closing for the remainder of the year and a shelter-in-place order affected all teams in the state. Smith said he felt the worst about lost memories for the senior members of his team. Even though a large portion of the roster is returning in 2020 and the Raiders will be looked on as a team to beat in South Jersey, Smith said this group of seniors has set the stage for the possibilities for even better things to come.

Two More County Residents Die of COVID-19

The Cape May County Health Department reported Wednesday that a 68-year-old man and a 59-year-old man, both from Woodbine, have died from COVID-19. The total number of coronavirus cases in the county is now 483, including 38 deaths. Twenty-nine of the deaths have been residents of long-term care facilities, according to a county press release.

Social Distance Ambassadors Coming to Cape May County

The Cape May County Department of Health has announced its new social distance campaign, called "Six Feet Saves." Six Feet Saves is an educational campaign that will be implemented to remind people to keep their distance to help slow the spread of COVID-19, according to a county press release Tuesday. Social Distance Ambassadors will be monitoring high-volume areas, such as boardwalks, to remind people to keep at least six feet apart, and to hand out educational materials on how to prevent being exposed to the virus.

Cape May County Reports Two New Coronavirus Deaths

Cape May County has confirmed two new deaths and nine new cases of COVID-19 in the latest update on the virus. In total, 36 Cape May County residents have died due to complications from COVID-19. The most recent deaths included a 73-year-old woman and an 80-year-old woman, both from Lower Township, according to a county press release on Tuesday.

OCHS Principal Outlines End-of-Year Plans

The Cape May County Health Department reported Monday that a 71-year-old woman from Lower Township and a 55-year-old man from Woodbine died from COVID-19. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Cape May County is now 470, including 34 deaths.

Mail-in Ballots Due Tuesday in O.C. Election

It is time to cast your vote, if you haven’t already, in the Ocean City municipal election, where mail-in ballots replaced polling locations amid the coronavirus pandemic across the state. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked by Tuesday, May 12. When the voting closes at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, the ballots will be counted and unofficial totals will be available, Cape May County Clerk Rita Marie Fulginiti said.

Cape May County Cancels Memorial Day Ceremony

Cape May County has canceled its annual Memorial Day ceremony in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Freeholder Director Gerald M. Thornton and Freeholder Jeffrey L. Pierson regretfully made the decision as a result of complying with the executive orders from Gov. Phil Murphy, and in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control’s guidelines, according to a county press release.
