Mail-in Ballots Due Tuesday in O.C. Election

It is time to cast your vote, if you haven’t already, in the Ocean City municipal election, where mail-in ballots replaced polling locations amid the coronavirus pandemic across the state. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked by Tuesday, May 12. When the voting closes at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, the ballots will be counted and unofficial totals will be available, Cape May County Clerk Rita Marie Fulginiti said.

Cape May County Cancels Memorial Day Ceremony

Cape May County has canceled its annual Memorial Day ceremony in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Freeholder Director Gerald M. Thornton and Freeholder Jeffrey L. Pierson regretfully made the decision as a result of complying with the executive orders from Gov. Phil Murphy, and in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control’s guidelines, according to a county press release.

Fifteen New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Cape May County

Cape May County health officials reported Saturday that there are 15 new coronavirus cases. Altogether, the county has had 458 positive cases of COVID-19, including 32 deaths. Twenty-three of those deaths have been residents of long-term care living facilities, according to a county press release.

Ocean City Reopens Beaches

Ocean City has reopened the beaches following a prolonged shutdown during the coronavirus pandemic. Access to the beaches will be permitted for people engaged in activities such as walking, running, exercising, surfing and fishing. Sunbathing, sitting in chairs, groups of people, group sports and bathing will be prohibited, the city announced.

The Cape May County Health Department reported Friday that an 88-year-old Lower Township man died from COVID-19. The total number of positive cases of COVID-19 infection in Cape May County is now 443, including 32 deaths.

The Cape May County Health Department on Thursday announced one new death and 15 new cases of COVID-19. The county has a total of 419 confirmed cases, including 31 deaths.
