The annual Ocean City Baby Parade on the Ocean City Boardwalk between Fifth and 14th Streets is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 9

  • Miss Ocean City Pageant: The pageant takes place at the Ocean City Music Pier, sponsored by the Ocean City Exchange Club, 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and available at the Music Pier Box Office. For information: www.ocexchangeclub.org.
  • 39th Annual Boys and Girls Surf Fishing Tournament: 9 a.m.-Noon at north end beach adjacent to the Ocean City-Longport Bridge. Registration 9 a.m.-10 a.m. at the Longport Bridge Parking Lot. Fishing from 10 a.m.-noon. Parental supervision required. Must bring your own bait. Awards presented in various age groups 8 to 16 years. Casting and fishing instruction will be provided. EVERY SUNDAY THROUGH THE END OF AUGUST

  • Character Nights (6 p.m.)  On the Ocean City Boardwalk.  Boardwalk mascots will sign autographs in front of the Music Pier. Come join the fun and meet all the Ocean City Boardwalk Merchants’ Mascots. Sponsored by Manco and Manco’s Pizza and Gillian’s Wonderland Pier.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 10

  • Ocean City Pops Night at the Opera:  The Pops present Night at the Opera 8 p.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Featuring baritone Todd Thomas, Soprano Suzanne Vinnik and tenor Cody Austin. Tickets $15/$10, www.ocnj.us/boxoffice or (609) 525-9248.

MONDAY, AUGUST 11

  • The Indigo Girls: The American folk duo with Amy Ray and Emily Salier who has performed together since their high school days. Their concert begins 7:30 p.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier.   • Funtastic Tuesdays (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.): On downtown Asbury Avenue (6th to 11th streets), entertainment, face painters and balloon sculptors.
  • Mummers Night  (7 p.m. to 9 p.m.): On the Ocean City Boardwalk (6th to 14th streets), sponsored by Shrivers, Surf Mall, Shirt Shack and Ocean Paradise.
  • Beach Walks: Tickets may be purchased on-site, adults for $1 and children for 50 cents; South End at 9 a.m. at the 59th Street and Central Avenue entrance to Corson’s Island State Park; North End at 6:30 p.m. at the Ocean City-Longport Bridge Parking Lot (Gardens Parkway)
  • ‘Frozen’ Sing-Along: Join Queen Elsa and other characters in singing “Let It Go” and other favorites from the Disney movie. See more

TUESDAY, AUGUST 12

  • Weird Week Contests: A series of family-oriented contests runs at 11 a.m. every day of the week at the Ocean City Music Pier (Boardwalk at Moorlyn Terrace). Entry in all contests is free. Age-group prizes are awarded. On Tuesday: French Fry Sculpting sponsored by the Promenade.
  • The Pamper Scamper: This cute and sometimes exciting Baby Crawling Race for ages up to 15 months is set for August 12th at the Sixth Street Beach. Registration is at 9 a.m., with race beginning at 9:30 a.m. for more information, call (609) 525-9300. Note: Babies who stand up and walk are applauded then disqualified.

  • Market Days (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.): On downtown Asbury Avenue (6th to 11th streets), entertainment, face painters and balloon sculptors.
  • Family Nights (7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.) On the Ocean City Boardwalk (6th to 14th streets), musical and family entertainment at different blocks on the boardwalk sponsored by: Old Salt, Playland Castaway Cove, Johnson’s Popcorn, Haunted Golf and Congo Falls
  • Inn to Inn Tours (2 p.m. to 4 p.m) Commencing at 7th Street and Central Avenue, an old-fashioned trolley winds its way through center city neighborhoods for an intimate visit to four or five bed and breakfasts. Afternoon refreshments are offered at the conclusion of the tours.
  • “Hands on History” at the Ocean City Historical Museum: Free program for children at 1 p.m. every Thursday includes hands-on activities related to various topics on Ocean City history. See more

 

THURSDAY, AUG. 14

  • Baby Parade: Ocean City’s 105th Annual Baby parade is set for Thurs., August 14 starting 5 p.m. Parade route is 6th to 12th Street on the Boardwalk. It is the oldest continuously run event of its kind in the country. Past grand marshals include baseball immortal Joe DiMaggio. Princess Grace Kelly also appeared in the parade and was known to enjoy the event. The Parade is open to children from infants to 10 years of age. Contestants can register at the Music Pier Information Center at Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace.   • 14th Street Fishing Pier Open House: Ocean City Fishing Pier Open House 6 p.m. to 8:30p.m. The O.C. Fishing Pier invites shutterbugs and other visitors to tour its Pier and Club House at 14th and Boardwalk. For information, call (609) 398-0534.

 

FRIDAY, AUGUST 15

  • Weird Week Contests: A series of family-oriented contests runs at 11 a.m. every day of the week at the Ocean City Music Pier (Boardwalk at Moorlyn Terrace). Entry in all contests is free. Age-group prizes are awarded. On Friday there are two contests: Little Miss and Little Mister Chaos. Children 3-5 make as much noise as they can by banging on pots and pans for three minutes. Mister and Miss Miscellaneous is for folks who have always wanted to be in a talent contest but were deterred by conditions beyond their control.
  • The Little Miss Ocean City Pageant: 7 p.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Tickets are $10 at the Music Pier Box Office. This is a scholarship program for girls ages 8-11. For information, call (609) 525-9304.

 

SATURDAY, AUGUST 16

  • Organ Donation Program: A program promoting Organ Donation is set from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Macedonia United Methodist Church, 941 Simpson Ave. Learn facts and ask questions about donation of hearts, lung, eyes, etc. A continental breakfast will be served from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for information, call Joe Pratt (609) 457-3364.
  • ESA Surf Contest: 7th St. Beach, sign up 7 a.m., first heat in the water 8 a.m. Sign up at beach the morning of the contest. If your membership has expired or if you are a new member, you may renew or join at the beach. (Aug. 23-no wave date). Cal (609) 884-5277 or visit www.snjsurfesa.org.
