The Showboat property occupies a block of Atlantic City’s Boardwalk front north of the Trump Taj Mahal.

Lisa Honaker, dean of the School of Arts and Humanities at Stockton University, will be the guest speaker at the annual Membership Meeting of the Ocean City Arts Center 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18. The public is invited to attend and light refreshments will be served.

Dr. Honaker will discuss the conversion of Showboat Atlantic City Casino into a branch of Stockton University. Stockton purchased the former casino for $18 million on December 12, 2014.
The university will create an Island Campus, which is planned to include student housing, classrooms, student dining and recreational facilities, a hotel, along with retail and restaurant space. Some summer session classes are planned for the upcoming season.

Dr. Honaker (Ph.D., Rutgers University) joined the Stockton faculty in 1995. She teaches a variety of courses in Victorian through contemporary British literature, as well as literary research methods, serial narrative, environmental literature, popular culture, and rhetoric and writing. She is a member of the Modern Language Association, Norhtheast Victorian Studies Association, American Democracy Project and Political Engagement Project.

The Ocean City Arts Center is hosting the dean of the university as a service to the community. The meeting provides a venue for residents to become informed about the upcoming expansion of our local university into Atlantic City.

During the Annual Membership Meeting, staff and board members of the Ocean City Arts Center will report on the status of classes, events and activities at the center as well as the election of several members of the Board of Trustees.
