The members of the Ocean City Police Department are on the front lines, along with other essential workers throughout the country, fighting a war against the invisible killer, COVID-19.
On Sunday, the police department took to its Facebook page to give a shout-out to a couple who donated gallons of hand sanitizer to the city’s emergency responders.
Scott Avellino, a co-owner of Revivalist Botanical Gins and Resurgent Whiskeys, based in Chester, Pa., and his wife, Mimi Post Avellino, donated 20 gallons of hand sanitizer to the department recently.
Police Lt. Patrick Randles, who is in charge of public information, commented on the Avellinos’ generosity.
“Scott Avellino reached out to city officials recently and offered to donate the sanitizer. Scott and his wife, Mimi, have strong ties to the area and are loved and respected by many,” Randles said.
He continued “The Ocean City Police Department is very grateful to the Avellino family and all of the hard working folks at Revivalist Botanical Gins and Resurgent Whiskeys.”
A post on the police department’s Facebook page summed up how grateful the officers are to the Avellinos.
“Thank you to Revivalist Botanical Gins and Resurgent Whiskeys!” it says.
The company is owned and operated by Scott and his brother, Don Avellino.
“Scott Avellino and his wife Mimi Post Avellino, yes OC’s very own Mimi Post, donated 20 gallons of hand sanitizer to the first responders of OCNJ,” the police department’s Facebook post says. “Revivalist Botanical Gins and Resurgent Whiskeys turned from making gin/whiskey at their distillery to producing hand sanitizer during this crisis.”
The Avellinos already have supplied “hundreds of gallons to Pa. first responders,” the post also notes. “We are grateful for being included in their generosity. We look forward to seeing you all this summer! Stay safe, stay healthy!”
Several people commented on the post, praising the Avellinos for their donation.
But a comment by Sharon Berenato Cullen seemed to best sum up the public’s sentiment.
“That’s so awesome. Thank you, Revivalist Gins, The Avellino family,” she said. “Ocean City residents appreciate you keeping our family of first responders safer.”
