Major, Eleanor Moore 101 ½ of Ocean City, NJ passed away peacefully on July 15, 2017 at the Bridges section of The Shores. She was born January 14, 1916 in Philadelphia, PA to Joseph and Ella Moore. She grew up in Oak Lane, Philadelphia and graduated from Germantown High School. She completed her education at Pierce Business College, Philadelphia, PA.

In 1938, Eleanor married John Major and they moved to Rahway, NJ. John passed away in 1965 and she continued living in their house until 2014. She was involved in various organizations and activities in the Rahway area. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. For more than 40 years, Eleanor was a volunteer with Rahway Hospital Auxiliary. She served as President and Treasurer as well as working in the gift shop. She volunteered with the American Red Cross for more than 50 years as a staff aide, Secretary of the Rahway-Clark Chapter and at the blood banks. She was a member of Rahway Junior Service league and the Rahway Woman’s Club.

Eleanor enjoyed many summers in Ocean City, growing up on North Street and in later years at her home in the South end.

Eleanor is also predeceased by her sister, Ethel Tripple. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Yingst of Lancaster, PA, and five nieces, Linda Shaneor, Nancy Caine, Barbara Strube, Susan Davis, Robin Ryan, and one nephew James Yingst. She is also survived by six grand nieces and seven grand nephews and eight great grand nieces and nephews.

Burial Office and Requiem Eucharist will be offered Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock from Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 30th Street at Bay Avenue, Ocean City, NJ where friends may call from ten o’clock until the time of service. Burial will be on Thursday in Riverside Cemetery, Norristown, PA.
