City Council President Pete Madden joked in mock disgust that he needed a shower after wearing a certain article of clothing.

Not just any clothing, mind you.

A big Eagles fan, Madden had to swallow his pride after losing a bet with fellow Councilman Bob Barr on the outcome of the Super Bowl.

If the Chiefs had lost, Barr would have had to wear Madden’s green, Eagles-themed sports coat. Madden, on the other hand, had agreed to wear Barr’s Chiefs jersey if the Eagles fell short.

Barr is a huge Chiefs fan whose loyalty to the team dates back to his childhood when his favorite player, Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana, was traded to Kansas City in 1993.

After the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, 38-35, Madden had to fulfill his end of the bet by sitting through Thursday night’s entire Council meeting while wearing a Chiefs jersey that had quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ No. 15 on it.

“It doesn’t feel good. It’s all wrong,” Madden said with a frown while slipping the Chiefs jersey over his head just as the meeting was getting started.

After the meeting was over, Madden immediately pulled off the jersey.

“That’s long enough,” he huffed in fake indignation, barely containing a smile. “I need a shower.”

Barr was careful not to rub it in, but was happy that Madden was the loser.

“It just brought a smile to my face,” Barr said. “I was thankful that I didn’t have to wear his Eagles coat.”
