Ocean City’s Ken Wisnefski Receives Prestigious CEO Award From Phila. Business...

Ken Wisnefski, founder and CEO of the digital marketing firm WebiMax, was honored by the Philadelphia Business Journal as one of 2018’s Most Admired CEOs at a gala event at the Ritz-Carlton in Philadelphia on Thursday evening. WebiMax was founded in 2008 and currently has over 100 employees located in its corporate office on the Camden Waterfront. WebiMax is the parent company of MediaWize, which operates the OCNJDaily.com, Downbeach.com, SeaIsleNews.com and SomersPoint.com news sites.

Sturdy Savings Bank Hosts Tree Lighting

Sturdy Savings Bank’s Ocean City 7th Street Branch had a special visit from Santa Claus during its annual Tree Lighting on Nov. 28. Over 100 people were in attendance during the festive event, including staff members and customers.

Josie Kelly’s in Somers Point Holds Official Grand Opening

A customer walking into Josie Kelly’s Public House in Somers Point might feel as if he or she crossed over “the pond.” Irish music fills the air, as people sit at communal tables, making it nearly impossible not to start a conversation with a stranger. Waitresses and bartenders greet patrons with warm smiles. A rustic wood finish on the floors, bars and tables, and a patina ceiling transform the rooms into an old-style Irish pub.

Humane Society, Friends Remember “Resident Dog” Roscoe

A dog’s life is a short one. But not so short that it cannot have a profound impact. And certainly not so short as to prevent a dog from getting into our hearts. A case in point: “Roscoe” a sickly Cane Corso, also known as Italian Mastiff, who arrived at the Humane Society of Ocean City shelter approximately six years ago and became one of the most colorful personalities at the facility. Unconditional love, companionship, unwavering loyalty are just a few qualities Roscoe exhibited every day. In doing so, the pooch inspired the human beings with whom he interacted and quickly became the “resident dog” of the Humane Society complex and its unofficial mascot...

O.C. Happenings: Christmas Parade Brightens Asbury Avenue on Friday

The annual Christmas Parade tops the list of upcoming special events in the latest edition of Ocean City Happenings. The parade will travel down Asbury Avenue at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7. Featuring a colorful variety of bands, floats and other attractions, it starts at Sixth Street and proceeds to 11th Street. Details follow for other Ocean City events in December, along with a sneak peek at the summer concert series at the Music Pier.

Police Activity Report: Nov. 25–Dec. 1

The Ocean City Police Department handled a total of 426 calls for service during the week of Nov. 25 to Dec. 1. A breakdown of the calls follows.

Postal Service Food Drive Set for Dec. 8

Letter carriers across the country, in partnership with the U.S. Postal Service, will be collecting food for families in need on Saturday, Dec. 8. In Ocean City, carriers ask that residents collect and bag non-perishable food items, then place them by their mailboxes for pickup on Dec. 8. All food will be donated to the Ocean City Ecumenical Council Community Food Cupboard.

Mayor’s Update: Nov. 30

In his weekly message to the public, Mayor Jay Gillian explains Ocean City's efforts to meet its court-ordered mandate for affordable housing. The court agreement sets out a plan for the city to partner with the federally sponsored Ocean City Housing Authority to expand and improve affordable housing units at existing sites, to build a small number of new homes and to provide incentives to private owners and developers through zoning and other measures. The mayor plans to schedule a town hall meeting early in the new year to share information and solicit feedback from the public on the affordable housing initiative.
