Local Surfing Legend Dean Randazzo Trades Wetsuit For Lectern

Dean Randazzo is typically a man of few words. New Jersey’s most successful professional surfer has always expressed himself on the water, riding the biggest waves in the world. But he has a story to tell. Randazzo, a longtime fixture of the Ocean City surfing scene, will share his story of becoming a professional surfer, battling cancer and his recovery at the Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation Lecture For A Cause 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Atlantic City Country Club in Northfield, according to a press release.

Shooting Island’s Restoration Work Begins

Contractors began work Wednesday on Ocean City’s restoration of Shooting Island, the longest living shoreline project in New Jersey history. This fall, Ocean City received a long-awaited permit for wetlands restoration and enhancement at Shooting Island in Great Egg Harbor Bay. The permit enables the city to move forward with another piece of its long-range plan for dredging, maintenance and restoration of the city’s beautiful back-bay recreational area.

Mayor Warns of Heavy Rain, Flooding

Mayor Jay Gillian is warning Ocean City residents that the National Weather Service forecast calls for minor tidal flooding, but it also calls for 2 to 3 inches of rain through Friday. If downpours happen at the same time as high tide, it could make flooding worse. High tide at the Ninth Street Bridge is at 6:40 a.m. Friday and streets could begin to see flooding in the hours before that time.

State-of-the-Art Movie Theater Multiplex and Burger Restaurant Coming to South Jersey

Santa delivered an early Christmas present to the city of Ventnor, which is now much closer to seeing its longtime dream come true. The Planning Board Wednesday, Dec. 12 approved all the necessary variances, waivers and conditions for Ventnor Theater, LLC to rehabilitate the old Ventnor Twin movie theater and turn it into a state-of-the art multiplex and burger restaurant. Special Weather Statement: Flood Watch

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Coastal Flood Watch in effect for Ocean City from 7 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 20) through 7 p.m. Friday (Dec. 21). Heavy rain is expected to coincide with strong southeast winds and full-moon tides. Water levels are expected to peak in the hours around high tide on the bay side of Ocean City at about 6:40 a.m. Friday.

Cape May County Unveils Online Flood Risk Mapping System

The Cape May County Office of Emergency Management has launched a new flood risk mapping system that will show the real flood risk on local streets and neighborhoods as it relates to specific storm events.
