Freeholder Incumbents Hayes, Thornton File for Re-Election Bids

Freeholder E. Marie Hayes, an Ocean City resident, and Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton, of Cape May Court House, are officially off and running in the November election for two spots on the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders. Tapped for the Republican ticket at the recent GOP Convention in Avalon, the two incumbents filed their nomination petitions earlier this week. They were then sworn in officially by Rita Marie Fulginiti, the Cape May County clerk.

Memorial Service Planned June 8 for Sea Isle Native Killed in...

A memorial service is planned on June 8 for Sea Isle City native and surfer Matt Vecere, who was killed in an airline crash in Africa. Although details are still being worked out, the service will include surfers paddling off shore and forming a circle to honor Vecere as well as a ceremony on the beach, according to Vecere's lifelong friend, John DiGenni, a Sea Isle real estate agent.

Sproles, Stairs to Highlight Sports Memorabilia Show

Two players who helped bring championship rings to Philadelphia will be part of the second annual Sports Memorabilia Show on Saturday, March 30, at the Ocean City Music Pier. Philadelphia Eagles star Darren Sproles and former Phillies slugger Matt Stairs will greet fans and sign autographs. With prom and graduation season on the immediate horizon – and in recognition of April being “Alcohol Awareness Month” – on April 8 and 9 the Ocean City High School After Prom Committee will present a very important and timely seminar titled “If They Had Known – Teens’ Reflections on the Party Culture.” The 90-minute “If They Had Known” presentation will take place at two locations: The Upper Township Middle School Cafeteria, located at 525 Perry Road in Petersburg, on Monday, April 8, at 6:30 p.m., and the Ocean City High School Library on Tuesday, April 9, at 6:30 p.m.

Special Weather Statement: Flood Advisory

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Advisory Thursday afternoon for Ocean City. The latest forecast calls for heavy rain and strong easterly winds throughout the day. The Flood Advisory will be in effect from 7 p.m. Thursday through 1 a.m. early Friday morning. The National Weather Service predicts a water level of 5.8 feet on the mean low water (MLW) scale for a high tide at 9:42 p.m. on the bay side of Ocean City. That level is considered minor coastal flooding, but conditions could be worse if heavy rain coincides with high tide.

O.C. Art Show and Exhibition Winners Announced

The Ocean City Fine Arts League presents the winners in the “Shadows” Art Show and Exhibition in March. First place: Dennis Doyle, of Boston, oil painting, “Under the Bridge.” Second Place: Janis Albuck, of Ventnor, photo, “Yellow Springs.” Third Place: Grace Zambelli, of Ventnor, acrylic, “At the Stage Door.”

O.C. Man Busted With 20 Pounds of Pot

Police seized 20 pounds of marijuana from a home in the Ocean City Housing Authority on Friday, March 15, resulting in the arrest of a city man on drug charges. Police arrested Seth Wood, 19, who was released pending a court appearance, authorities announced in a press release Tuesday.

Get Ready for “Broadway on the Boardwalk”

On June 26 at 7:30 p.m., Broadway will come to the Boardwalk as professional performers appearing in the Greater Ocean City Theatre Company's 2019 Summer Season take to the stage to bring Broadway favorites to life. The 10th edition of “Broadway on the Ocean City Boardwalk” will welcome home two Broadway stars who got their professional start with the Ocean City Theatre Company.
