Flag-Raising Ceremony Honors Old Glory

The American flag stood tall and majestically blew in the wind during this year’s Flag Day ceremony. People gathered around the flag located at the Ocean City-Longport Bridge Flag Area on Saturday morning. The crowd included local veterans as well as others who came to show their support. The themes of freedom and pride were expressed several times throughout the program.

Ocean City Students Promote Bike Safety

In a town like Ocean City, bike safety is crucial. Now that the summer tourism season is getting underway, many bicyclists are out on the roads, bridges and the Boardwalk while sharing the same space with pedestrians and motor vehicle traffic. With the goal of promoting bike safety, Ocean City High School’s TV/Media Program teamed up with the Ocean City Police Department and Tom Heist of Heist Insurance and the chairman of Bike OCNJ, a local bicycling advocacy group. Students had the opportunity to create and submit a public service announcement for a chance to win $1,500 in scholarship money donated by Heist Insurance. Eleven videos were submitted and two were chosen.

Blackjacks Face Destroyers on Road Trip

The Atlantic City Blackjacks (3-3) will head to Columbus to take on the Destroyers (0-6) to start their four-game road trip on Friday, June 7. Police Department Getting HERO-Themed Patrol Car

The Ocean City Police Department and the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign are teaming up to promote designated driving in a unique way — on one of the city’s patrol cars. In the first of its kind, an Ocean City police car will feature HERO Campaign signage aimed at preventing drinking and driving. When not on patrol, the cruiser will be displayed at community events, on the Boardwalk and at local schools to educate students and the public about the importance of responsibility and the dangers of drinking and driving.
