In a town like Ocean City, bike safety is crucial. Now that the summer tourism season is getting underway, many bicyclists are out on the roads, bridges and the Boardwalk while sharing the same space with pedestrians and motor vehicle traffic. With the goal of promoting bike safety, Ocean City High School’s TV/Media Program teamed up with the Ocean City Police Department and Tom Heist of Heist Insurance and the chairman of Bike OCNJ, a local bicycling advocacy group. Students had the opportunity to create and submit a public service announcement for a chance to win $1,500 in scholarship money donated by Heist Insurance. Eleven videos were submitted and two were chosen.

The Atlantic City Blackjacks (3-3) will head to Columbus to take on the Destroyers (0-6) to start their four-game road trip on Friday, June 7. The Blackjacks sit in second place tied with Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington. Starting off the road trip with a win will be crucial to the teams push for the playoffs. The Ocean City Police Department and the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign are teaming up to promote designated driving in a unique way — on one of the city’s patrol cars. In the first of its kind, an Ocean City police car will feature HERO Campaign signage aimed at preventing drinking and driving. When not on patrol, the cruiser will be displayed at community events, on the Boardwalk and at local schools to educate students and the public about the importance of responsibility and the dangers of drinking and driving.

The star of the Broadway version of Disney’s “Frozen” will be the featured performer for a special Ocean City Pops concert July 14 at the Ocean City Music Pier. Caissie Levy, who is currently starring as Elsa in the stage production of “Frozen,” also will join Chubby Checker and Kate Flannery as a special guest in the 65th annual Night in Venice boat parade on July 13. Tickets are on sale now for Levy’s show, and registration is open for anybody who would like to participate in Night in Venice as part of the boat parade or home decorating contest.

Republic Bank has become a Master Sponsor for Ocean City American Legion Post 524 and its Annual Golf Tournament to be held September 16, 2019 at Harbor Pines Golf Club, by donating $5,000 for local veteran causes. Republic Bank will be opening a new location at 9th Street and West Avenue in Ocean City in 2020.
