OCHS Boys Basketball Team Wins Opener

The Ocean City High School boys basketball team had a strong start to the 2019-2020 season, defeating the visiting Middle Township Panthers 65-48 on Friday evening. Gannon Brady and Tom Finnegan both led the way for the Red Raiders, scoring 23 points each to top all scorers. Mike Rhodes chipped in 15 points for Ocean City.

Ocean City Primary School Collects Treats For Troops In Honor Of...

This holiday season, the Ocean City Primary School has been collecting donations to send to troops overseas in honor of a kindergarten student whose father will be overseas in Afghanistan during the holidays. Primary School teacher Jennifer DeVlieger and her class are leading the way to spreading cheer. The school has collected donations of treats such as nuts, trail mix, granola bars, beef jerky, Pringles, Pop Tarts, pretzels and other packaged snacks to send overseas to the troops. In addition to the treats, Ocean City Primary School students made cards for troops to include in each package. This project was inspired by a kindergarten student whose father is in the Marine Corps. He will be in Afghanistan and may not be returning to Ocean City until August...

Mayor Jay Gillian is urging shoppers to patronize Ocean City's stores and restaurants in the final two weeks of the holiday season. In a message posted Friday on the city's website, he is also reminding everyone that admission buttons for the city's family-friendly First Night celebration on New Year's Eve are still available.

O.C. Girls Basketball Team Cruises in Opener

The Ocean City Red Raiders girls basketball program opened up the 2019-2020 season Thursday night with a convincing win over the visiting Millville Thunderbolts, 52-16. Red Raider sophomore Marin Panico led all scorers with 13 points.

“Code Blue” in Effect for Cold Weather

The Cape May County Office of Emergency Management advises that all municipalities in Cape May County will be under a “Code Blue” severe weather advisory from 6 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday. A Code Blue emergency is intended to protect homeless people living outside, on the streets, in parks or poorly insulated settings and who are at risk for cold-related exposure and possible death. People seeking shelter in a warming center should contact their local municipality. Additional resources are available by calling the county homeless hotline at 609-886-1325 or after hours at 1-877-886-1325.

Mayor Gillian, “Angels” Respond to Keep Christmas Dinner Going

“We had a lot of little angels helping us,” Jennifer Bowman said. “And a few big angels too.” And with that, Bowman, one of the organizers of Ocean City’s Community Christmas Dinner, proclaimed the event financially fit for its 30th Annual edition, and ready to begin preparation for the big day. The Community Christmas Dinner is designed to provide a holiday dinner for those in need: those in need of a good solid meal; those in need of a place to go for dinner on Christmas; and those in need of a way to volunteer and help their fellow community members. The event will take place on Christmas day from noon to 3 p.m. at St. Peter’s Methodist Church, 501 east 8th Street. United Methodist Communities Wins Four MarCom Awards

United Methodist Communities (UMC) is the recipient of four 2019 MarCom Awards, an international creative competition recognizing outstanding marketing and communications professionals. The MarCom Awards administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, consists of several thousand marketing, communication, advertising, public relations, digital, and web professionals. This year, they judged over 6,500 entries representing the United States, Canada, and 18 other countries. The fall 2018 issue of engage, UMC’s newsletter, took Platinum. With the theme, Then and Now, it contrasted the organization’s founding year, 1907 with 2017. O.C. Ecumenical Council Thanks Post Office For Food Drive

Dorothy Cianci, coordinator of the Ocean City Ecumenical Council Community Food Cupboard, expressed her thanks to local residents and the Ocean City Post Office carriers for the Dec. 7 food drive. The Post Office Food Drive brought in 7,460 pounds of food for the Ecumenical Council Community Food Cupboard.
