The Post Office Food Drive this month brought in 7,460 pounds for the Ocean City Ecumenical Council Community Food Cupboard.

Dorothy Cianci, coordinator of the Ocean City Ecumenical Council Community Food Cupboard, expressed her thanks to local residents and the Ocean City Post Office carriers for the Dec. 7 food drive.

The Post Office Food Drive brought in 7,460 pounds of food for the Ecumenical Council Community Food Cupboard.

Cianci also extended her thanks to The Shores of Wesley Manor for coordinating its month-long food drive to coincide with the Postal Food Drive – bringing in a very large donation for the drive.

She also thanked the volunteers who helped with weighing, sorting and shelving the donated items.

Additionally, thanks go to the following:

  • Mike Calise: The Post Office contact
  • Mark Kelly: Picking up/returning needed carts
  • Tony Dostellio: 34th Street Acme, for allowing the Ecumenical Council Community Food Cupboard to borrow the supermarket’s carts
  • Sister Joelle: Recruiting students from St. Damien’s to help with the set-up and sorting
  • Boy Scouts and high school students: For help with the sorting and shelving of items
  • And all of the adult volunteers from the Ecumenical Council and the community who helped with the set-up and breakdown of the sorting room and helped the postal carriers off-load the trucks and do the final sorting on Monday morning.
