Ocean City Community Helps 23 Displaced in Fire

When a fire broke out and destroyed a multi-family residence at 932 Simpson Ave. in Ocean City on Jan. 27, it left 23 people without a place to live. But the community came together quickly, to not only find temporary housing, but to provide meals, clothing and comfort for the displaced residents. No one was injured in the blaze, but families left with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. One child ran out of the house barefoot, according to officials.

Back Bay Dredging Set to Begin in Ocean City

There’s been a slight delay in the start of bayside dredging in Ocean City, but city officials assured that the work will be done long before the boating, swimming and fishing season kicks into high gear. The work, originally estimated to begin in January, is scheduled to begin within days, Ocean City Public Information Officer Doug Bergen said. “Mobilization activities are anticipated to be completed this week, with start of dredging to begin Friday or Monday within Snug Harbor and North Point Lagoon,” Bergen said. “The contractor will then work to the south all the way to Clubhouse Lagoon by the end of March.” Mayor Jay Gillian has been in office since 2010. Ocean City’s public boat ramp at the bay end of Tennessee Avenue is an amenity that gives boaters and other watercraft enthusiasts a convenient location to enjoy the water. The summer hotspot will become even better this year. The city is making plans to upgrade it.

Company Hired to Design New Ocean City Airport Terminal

The city has hired a consultant to design a new Ocean City Municipal Airport terminal that will feature a new restaurant. City Council approved a professional services contract of $35,450 at its Jan. 26 meeting for TranSystems, formerly L.R. Kimball, to do a conceptual design study for a building that will also feature a pro shop for the adjacent Ocean City Municipal Golf Course.
