Ocean City Police and Residents Enjoy “Coffee With Cops”

Concerns about rowdy teens, riders not obeying traffic and helmet laws both on bicycles or e-bikes and nuisance complaints were among topics discussed by Ocean City police officers and residents during “Coffee with Cops” on Sunday. The atrium of the Ocean City Free Public Library in the Community Center was filled with residents and officers from the Community Policing Unit. They chatted while sipping coffee and eating bagels and cookies.

Ocean City Gearing Up For Next Phase of Merion Park Flood...

Nearly 10 years ago, the flood-prone Merion Park neighborhood began serving as a model for the way Ocean City would protect the rest of the town, from floodwater, for the future. It was the first neighborhood to begin using pumping stations to flush stormwater off the streets much faster than it normally would take for the water to recede back into the bay. But the pumping stations and other drainage improvements installed in 2014 were considered the first phase of the Merion Park project. All these years later, the second phase is gearing up to complete the project and give residents what they have been waiting for -- relief from chronic flooding.

O’Neal Becomes OCHS Principal, Pellegrino Athletic Director

After a year as interim Ocean City High School Principal, Dr. Wendy O’Neal got the official nod Thursday night to lead the school on a permanent basis. In addition to O’Neal, the school board approved Michael Pellegrino as the district’s new athletic director.

Families Delight in Ocean City’s Environmental Fun Day

The Ocean City High School cafeteria was transformed Saturday into a nature lover’s paradise where kids got to touch starfish, check out a cool armadillo named “Zelda” and watched as a ball python wrapped itself around a stick. The Nature and Environmental Fun Day packed in all sorts of activities -- from tips on composting, making crafts from recycled materials such as toilet rolls and cereal boxes, to planting seeds to one day sprout into shrubbery and trees, to plenty of giveaways from LED lights to power cords.

Ocean City Investor Closes Bankruptcy Deal For Crown Bank Building

The sale of the landmark Crown Bank building in downtown Ocean City closed this week, making it official that two local brothers will take control of the nearly 100-year-old property, saving it from public auction. The property was edging toward public auction, which was slated for Feb. 21, until last month when a federal bankruptcy court judge approved the sale of the building and its adjacent parking lots for $6.675 million to Raj Khatiwala and his brother, Yogi, of Crown Holdings LLC.

Ocean City Beachfront Restaurant Owner May Get to Elevate Building

The owner of the building that serves as the Ocean City eatery Sand House Kitchen was given a second chance to work out a plan with the Zoning Office to elevate the restaurant to protect it from coastal storms.

New Gazebos Planned For Ocean City Golf Course

Ocean City is continuing its efforts to maintain and improve the grounds of the Ocean City Municipal Golf Course & Pro Shop. The course is located at 26th Street and Bay Avenue in the same complex as the Municipal Airport. Three new gazebos will be constructed in the near future to replace weathered ones on the 12-hole course. During the City Council meeting on Feb. 9, Council approved a contract for Horizon Structures, LLC of Atglen, Pa., to supply the gazebos. The contract is for $26,445 not to exceed $44,000 in the year, with the funds coming from the city’s capital budget. Steve Longo, the city’s manager of public buildings and grounds, said in a memo about the company, Horizon Structures, “The city has purchased several sheds and gazebos from the company over the past couple of years and found the structures to be of high quality at very affordable prices.” Longo also noted the need for new gazebos...

Ocean City Community Helps Families Displaced by Fire

The Ocean City community is working together to show 23 people who lost their homes when a fire broke out last month that they have strong support. They will not be homeless and they will not go hungry. In less than three weeks, some of the people displaced by the fire at a multi-family building at 932 Simpson Ave. were able to secure temporary housing, thanks to the generosity of the community.

Contractor to Replace Damaged Floors at Ocean City High School

The Board of Education plans to approve a contract Thursday totaling $393,835 to replace the main and auxiliary gym floors and the weight room floor at Ocean City High School after pipes burst in December due to freezing temperatures, destroying the floors.
