Sussex County Man to Walk 200 Miles to Benefit Chip Miller...

Tom Eberhardt is getting ready for a journey of a lifetime when the 70-year-old walks from the highest to the lowest points in New Jersey to raise funds for the Chip Miller Amyloidosis Foundation (CMAF). Eberhardt will walk from High Point State Park in Sussex County to Cape May in a month-long fundraiser to benefit the foundation. He will do it because he wants to help others who, like him, have the disease.

Ocean City Beach Replenishment Project Rolling Along

When 39-degree temps and gloomy clouds bring on the winter blues, there is something to smile about -- wide sandy beaches in Ocean City come summer -- thanks to an ongoing beach replenishment project. The project began in November to pump in 1.5 million cubic yards of fresh sand in the north end and the downtown area stretching from the Seaview Road jetty to 14th Street. A city official says the project remains on track to be completed by mid-February.

Ventnor Sand Sculpture Puts Whale Plight in Focus

Local sand sculptor John Gowdy and his wife drew a whale on the beach next to the Ventnor Fishing Pier on Saturday in advocacy for pausing the offshore wind turbine project until scientists can figure out why humpback whales are dying and washing ashore. “We’ve never seen this many whales wash up on the beach,” Protect Our Coast NJ supporter Frank Leone said. Within 24 hours of coming up with the idea of doing a whale sand sculpture on the beach, Leone, a civil engineer, found Gowdy, a local sand sculptor who had the same idea.

Ocean City Looking For Volunteers For Citizens Police Academy

The Ocean City Police Department is accepting applications for the 2023 Citizens Police Academy. The Ocean City Citizens Police Academy was organized in 2022 and offers citizens the opportunity to learn about the internal operations of the Ocean City Police Department. “This is another program to expand our community-based efforts,” Police Chief Jay Prettyman said. “It will open lines of communication and create a better understanding among the community of police operations in Ocean City.” The overall objective of the Academy is to provide citizens with sound and accurate information about the Ocean City Police Department and the criminal justice process, so citizens are able to make informed decisions regarding matters involving the police department and/or police activity. Crown Bank Building Sold to Ocean City Investor

A buyer for the nearly 100-year-old landmark Crown Bank building in downtown Ocean City was approved in bankruptcy court this week. The deal is expected to be finalized in about a month to sell the building and its adjacent parking lots for $6.675 million.

The Ocean City community joined to help others in need with the annual Postal Food Drive on Saturday, which brought in tons of food. Letter carriers in Ocean City, in partnership with the local branch of the U.S. Postal Service, collected food from residents who left the items in their mailboxes, to be donated to the Ocean City Ecumenical Council Food Cupboard.
