Every year, Ocean City's school district seems to try different ways to quell the freshman jitters and to also help incoming students forge new friendships and get a little guidance from upperclassmen. Morning and afternoon sessions Friday gave new high school students the opportunity to participate in some of the 26 games offered at Carey Stadium and the auxiliary gym at the high school. The "Freshman Teambuilding Day" games are designed to be interactive with other students. The day combines friendship, problem solving, academics, entertainment, pop culture, athletics and social consciousness.

While Ocean City is already acclaimed for its award-winning beaches, it will soon be getting hundreds of thousands of cubic yards of fresh sand to make its shoreline even more inviting to residents and visitors. The project by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers includes pumping in sand, repairing dunes and adding dune grass and fencing in Ocean City as well as replenishing the beaches in Sea Isle City and Strathmere.

Every year, Ocean City Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local 61 donates thousands of dollars to good causes, from providing scholarship funds to high school seniors to helping families in need around the holidays. One of the biggest ways that the PBA raises money for such charitable donations is through the PBA Golf Tournament. And this year marks a major milestone -- 25 years of the all-day golf outing fundraiser. It will be held at the Avalon Golf Course on Oct. 14 beginning at 12 p.m. Registration starts at 11 a.m. The cost is $145 per golfer. About 100 participants are currently registered and 45 slots remain open.

The all-American supercar with its supreme in engineering - is not just any gorgeous, head-turning sports car. And to those who ogled more than 400 of them that commanded a presence on the Ocean City Boardwalk Sunday, one of the best of American motors, seemed to be as awesome when designed back in the mid-50’s to what it looks like now. To the hundreds of people who strolled the boards, looking at gleaming, pristine, shiny cars, they got more than an eyeful of these cars and seemed to love them all...

Ocean City Scouts BSA, Boy Troop 32 will hold a Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, Sept. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Ocean City American Legion Post 524 46th Street and West Ave. in Ocean City The menu includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, coffee, tea, orange juice, and milk. The cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children. Proceeds will be used to fund upcoming camping trips and to procure camping equipment and supplies for Troop 32...

The Department of Health will be hosting free flu clinics throughout Cape May County from September through November. High-dose flu shots will be offered at senior center clinics while supplies last. According to the Center of Disease Control, flu vaccine prevents millions of illnesses and flu-related doctor’s visits each year...

Jumps, loops, rolls and a lot of G-forces went into Ocean City’s Air Show on Sunday, with expert skydivers and aerobatic pilots showcasing their talents for the thousands of spectators who marveled at the stunts. Families packed the beaches and lined up along the Boardwalk from Sixth to 14th streets for the Aerobatic Air Show. The crowd also got to see a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter demonstration of a water rescue, planes built in the 1940s and even a T-33, the U.S. Air Force’s first operational jet and a piece of U.S. aviation history. Team Fastrax, a professional skydiving outfit that dedicates every performance to a fallen service member or first responder, has appeared in the air show for three years.

Ocean City ended the summer tourism season with slightly more than $4 million in beach tag sales. Both beach tag sales and parking revenue were up compared to 2018, according to Frank Donato, the city's chief financial officer. Great weather was a catalyst for what is considered one of the best summers in recent years.

Walter Perez was a television reporter in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001. What began as a typical day, heading out to cover a school strike on a beautiful, sunny day, turned into one of tragedy, terrorist attacks, and a monumental task of covering it. Perez, a reporter with 6abc Action News, was the guest speaker during Ocean City’s “A Day to Remember” ceremony at the Ocean City Tabernacle. In a heartfelt tribute to those lives lost, Perez, the lead reporter for his former station in New York during 9/11, told of how the deadliest terrorist attack ever on U.S. soil affected him, what he saw and how he covered it.

All eyes will turn to the sky for Ocean City’s Air Show Weekend on Sept. 14 and 15. All events are free to attend. The celebration starts with the Ocean City Airport Festival on Saturday (Sept. 14) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The festival features a ground display of unusual airplanes ranging from World War II to the present. The event will feature a parachute jump from Team Fastrax, “America’s Skydiving Team.” It also will include food, music, classic cars and kids’ activities, including the Ocean City Board of Realtors’ popular Bubble Mania. The skydiving team will perform at the Airport Festival at some time after 12 p.m., depending on wind and weather conditions. The half-mile “Runway Run” will return and is open to all ages. It offers a chance for anybody to cover ground normally traversed only by planes. The run will go off at some time between noon and 2 p.m...
