Ocean City’s AARP to Host Seminar on Volunteering

Volunteer opportunities will be discussed in an AARP program on Friday, March 18.

The event, in person at the Ocean City Free Public Library, 1735 Simpson Ave., and also via Zoom, offers several locations people may become a volunteer.

Rachel Sanfo, the RSVP program director, will address opportunities to use your current skills in volunteering or even allow you to develop new skills. As part of AmeriCorps Seniors, RSVP is America’s largest volunteer network for people 55 and over.

Shore Medical Center in Somers Point could not exist without the generous support of countless volunteers, according to an AARP news release. Lisa DiTroia, director of Auxiliary and Volunteer Services, and Kimberly Ford, volunteer coordinator, will share these opportunities with you.

A representative from Beacon Animal Shelter will also is speak about helping or fostering abandoned pets.

Another volunteer opportunity may be with the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).

CASA is a volunteer-based organization that recruits and trains community volunteers to be court advocates for foster children. Outreach and Recruitment Manager John Oelkers will explain these volunteer connections.

Sara Matthews is the volunteer coordinator for Cape May County Habitat for Humanity.  She will be presenting information on the organization and opportunities that exist to help families build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.

The Cape May County Department of Health Medical Reserve Corps trains medical and non-medical volunteers to assist in emergency preparedness. Training sessions are held throughout the year and volunteers are called on in emergency situations. Liberty Kocis, a health educator with the county, will discuss these opportunities.
