The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect for Ocean City from 9 p.m. Friday through 3 a.m. Saturday.

A near-full-moon tide, easterly winds gusting up to 35 mph and heavy rain are expected to contribute to flooding conditions.

Water levels are expected to peak in the hours around high tide on the bay side (Ninth Street Bridge) of Ocean City at 10:51 p.m. Friday. Forecasters predict a water level of 6.1 feet on the mean low water (MLW) scale, just below the threshold for “moderate” tidal flooding. Visit www.ocnj.us/octides to compare this prediction to other recent and historic tide levels.

The advisory is likely to be extended to Saturday night when the water level is expected to reach 6.4 feet MLW on a high tide at 11:46 p.m.

Residents and guests should be prepared to move vehicles on Friday evening or avoid travel until the morning. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation. Parking will be available at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 20 North Shore Road in Marmora (please read letter from Trinity if you take advantage of this service).

For your safety and the protection of your vehicle and neighboring properties, never attempt to drive through flood waters, and do not drive around barricades.
