After holding its annual reorganization meeting on Jan. 4, the Ocean City Board of Education is prioritizing the search for a new superintendent of schools, the board’s new president said in a statement Friday.

In the meantime, Interim Superintendent Terrence Crowley is currently leading the nearly 2,000-student school district.

Crowley stepped in on Jan. 1 to guide the district during the search for a full-time superintendent.

“Although we are undertaking a new search, we are doing so with the benefit of lessons learned over the course of the last couple years,” newly appointed School Board President Kevin Barnes said in a news release Friday. “We have received and reviewed stakeholder input that will assist the Board in interviewing candidates and in choosing an exceptional leader for our district.”

The district posted the position on the New Jersey Association of School Administrators (NJASA) website (www.njasa.net), and on the district website (oceancityschools.org).

The job listing can also be found on Facebook, NJSchoolJobs.com and the websites for the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA), the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials (NJASBO), Stockton University and Rowan University, among others.

“Our district operates in an outstanding environment. Our students, teachers, administrators, and facilities are second to none, which will entice exceptional talent to apply for the position,” Barnes said in the release.

“The board is extremely focused on the search and will diligently assess all candidates in a time-sensitive manner. Although our timeline is aggressive, we will not sacrifice diligence in choosing the right leader for Ocean City Schools,” he added.

The Board of Education will select a superintendent who is not only knowledgeable on educational matters, but will also provide leadership to continue the success of the students, school officials said.

The district is accepting applications through Jan. 29.
