Robin Shaffer is passionate about the field of education and has dedicated his adult life to serving communities of children, parents and educators. He is a third generation educator, and a fourth generation Ocean City citizen. He holds a master’s degree in education from Hood College and has extensive experience in the field of education for 28 years and
counting, as a teacher, Special Education administrator, vice principal, principal, and graduate professor for Towson University and the College of Notre Dame. His wide ranging
experience in the field of education as well as federal, state and local leadership will provide him a good foundation for serving this community as a board member.
The OC board needs leaders who exercise their responsibility for oversight over the Ocean City School District, who listen to community stakeholders and are willing to stand up to Trenton to assert local control over local matters. And we need a Board of Education that reflects the values of our community.
He is authentic. He is compassionate. And he is committed: to restore decency, to protect our children from political interference and indoctrination, and to hire the very best superintendent to ensure OCSD is pre-eminent as a top New Jersey school district. If elected, he will ask the tough questions that need asking. He will respond to all constituent concerns in a timely fashion and he will look for every opportunity for improving the working environment for our teachers, as well as improving the academic and the social and emotional welfare of our children. He will strive to increase access and transparency for our parent community.
Shaffer was twice elected president of the Maryland Special Education Advisory Board which advised the state Board of Education and state Superintendent of Schools on Special Education matters. Following a career as a teacher and school administrator, he continued his service as a Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools accreditation specialist and chairperson. In 2014, he held a position as Director of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement at the US Embassy in Astana, Kazakhstan. In that top secret cleared role, he oversaw a $2 million annual budget that worked to further US foreign policy objectives. Upon his return to Washington in 2017 he worked in counterterrorism for the State Department and Department of Defense. He had a great deal of responsibility entrusted to him in these positions. But he can think of no greater responsibility than ensuring the children of OCNJ get the best possible education here in Ocean City.
