The internationally acclaimed Professional Bull Riders (PBR) organization returned to Ocean City, Maryland, earlier this month and provided its spectators the memories of a lifetime.
From June 2-4, the PBR put on the Ocean City Seacrets Classic — part of the Challenger Series — in Ocean City. The festivities featured performances from the Jimmy Charles Band, country boutiques, recreational activities, food trucks and so much more.
The lucky winner of this year’s PBR Ocean City tournament was Alex Cerqueira, who finished with 128 points and the grand prize of $11,360. Cody McCandless finished second with 81 points for $7,960 in prize money.
It was a much-needed victory for Cerqueira, who currently sits 10th in the PBR Challenge Series standings with 210 points. Sandro Batista remains well ahead of the competition with 446 points, and Daylon Swearinger is a distant second with 358 points.
With “The Old Line State” set to enter its busiest sports season in the coming months, now is a good time for residents to check out the best Maryland sports betting promos. The Professional Bull Riders also came to Ocean City in June of last year for the “Bulls on the Beach” event, also as part of The Challenger Series. That event was won by Eduardo de Oliveira (total prize money of $7,150), with Rafael Jose de Brito and Cole Melancon claiming the second and third spots, respectively. Alex Janks (fourth) and Michael Lane (fifth) rounded out the top five.
Upcoming Sporting Events In Maryland
After a lengthy and painful rebuilding process, the Baltimore Orioles of Major League Baseball are poised to end a seven-year playoff drought.
The Orioles showed plenty of progress by finishing with a winning record of 83-79 — their first winning campaign since 2016. That record was especially impressive considering that the Orioles reside in the AL East division which sent three teams to the playoffs a year ago — the New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays.
Baltimore holds a comfortable lead for the AL’s top wild card spot, though they certainly are capable of closing the gap with the Rays for the division crown.
The Orioles play their home games at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Their regular season will culminate with a four-game homestand against the Boston Red Sox, with the final contest scheduled for Oct. 1.
So sports fans living in or visiting Maryland still have a gap of just over three months to enjoy an Orioles’ regular season game before the playoffs commence. There’s still plenty of time to experience a memorable day at the ol’ ball game.
On top of the Orioles, the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens are gearing up for the 28th regular season in franchise history. Baltimore will open their 2023 season with a home contest against the Houston Texans at M&T Bank Stadium on Sept. 10 (1:00 p.m. EST).
The Ravens will play nine regular season games at home. Aside from Houston, they’ll also welcome the Indianapolis Colts (Sept. 24), Detroit Lions (Oct. 22), Seattle Seahawks (Nov. 5), Cleveland Browns (Nov. 12), Cincinnati Bengals (Nov. 16), Los Angeles Rams (Dec. 10), Miami Dolphins (Dec. 31) and Pittsburgh Steelers (Jan. 7).
The Washington Commanders are marketed as a team in DC, but they actually play their home games at FedExField in Landover — about 33 miles south of Baltimore. The Commanders will open their season with a home game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 10.
College football season is just around the corner, too. The Maryland Terrapins will begin their 2023 season with a home contest at SECU Stadium against another Maryland-based team in the Towson Tigers on Sept. 2.
The Navy Midshipmen open their season with a road tilt against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Aug. 26. Two weeks later, the Midshipmen will come back to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium for their home opener against the Wagner Seahawks on Sept. 9.
