Ocean City Seeks Volunteers for Housing Authority, Environmental Commission

The City of Ocean City is seeking applicants for volunteers to fill three unexpired seats on the Ocean City Housing Authority and three seats on the Environmental Commission.

Three Housing Authority commissioners resigned after the most recent Housing Authority meeting. See “City Gets $1 Million But Loses Three Housing Authority Commissioners.”

Information on the positions is as follows:

HOUSING AUTHORITY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

  • Filing deadline:  Monday, June 9, 2014
  • To apply: Complete a Citizen Leadership e-FORM
  • Purpose: The Ocean City Housing Authority is an independent body responsible for the ownership and management of Public Housing in Ocean City in accordance with state and federal guidelines. The Board of Commissioners are responsible for the oversight of finances and policies. Housing authority commissioners must complete five courses within 18 months of appointment.
  • Vacancy: Fill three unexpired terms
  • Meetings: Six times per Year

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION

  • Filing deadline:  Wednesday, June 11, 2014
  • To apply: Complete a Citizen Leadership e-FORM
  • Purpose: 
    • To protect, develop or promote use of natural resources, including water resources, located within territorial limits of the City of Ocean City.
    • Conduct research into the use and possible use of open land areas of the City and may coordinate the activities of unofficial bodies organized for similar purposes, and may advertise, prepare, print, and distribute books, maps, charts, plans and pamphlets which in its judgment it deems necessary for its purpose;
    • Keep an index of all open space areas, publicly or privately owned, including open marshland, swamps and other wetlands, in order to obtain information on the proper use of such area and may from time to time recommend to the City’s Planning Board plans and programs for inclusion in the Master Plan and the development and use of such areas;
    • Under certain circumstances, review applications before the Planning Board and Zoning Board and provide input and recommendations to those Boards.
    • To apply for applicable state grants.
  • Vacancies: Fill three terms
  • Meetings: Bayside Center, 520 Bay Avenue at 6:30 p.m.
