The region saw record warmth on Sunday with the temperature reaching 72 degrees at 12:54 p.m. at Atlantic City International Airport, the weather station where official records have been kept since the 1950s.

The mercury didn’t top 70 degrees in Ocean City, but it came close, and summer-like crowds strolled the boardwalk through the afternoon.

The previous record for Dec. 13 was set in 1931 with a high of 67 degrees.

The record for Dec. 14 was 65 degrees in 1929, and the average temperature on this date is 46 degrees. The National Weather Service forecast calls for a record high temperature of 66 degrees on Monday (Dec. 14) in Ocean City with a chance of showers after 2 p.m.

Tuesday will bring another warm day with sun and a high of 60 degrees. The temperature is expected to dip back down into the low 50s on Wednesday.
