City Council last night voted unanimously to “introduce” the 2022 municipal budget that I presented last month. This is one step in a process that will lead to a public hearing and final vote on May 12.
The budget maintains all of the services Ocean City residents expect and deserve, and it continues our program of capital improvements in every part of town. It calls for zero change to the tax rate.

We had a call this week with the state Department of Environmental Protection, and I’m happy to report that we’re on track for a beach replenishment project sometime before summer 2023.
The federal government has committed up to $17 million for this work. With the state share, Ocean City will receive as much as $24 million to rebuild beaches at the north end and downtown.
As always, I’m grateful for our partnership with the Army Corps and DEP. This work is vital in protecting property and preserving our beaches.
I want to remind everybody that the Doo Dah Parade starts at noon Saturday, (April 9). The weather forecast looks good, and I encourage you all to come out.
Jimmy and Joe Watson from the Broad Street Bullies’ Stanley Cup teams will be grand marshals.
They’ll be at the Music Pier for free autographs and photos after the parade.
The Great Egg Hunt also will follow the parade. Families with kids 7 and under are invited to hunt for eggs at participating stores.
I’m sad to report that Robert Blutinger passed away yesterday at his new home in Florida.
Many came to know and love Bob as a partner and regular presence at Boyar’s Market in Ocean City for more than 50 years.
Others may remember that he was a referee for the Harlem Globetrotters. Michele and I would like to extend deepest condolences to his family and many friends.
