Gloria Marie Klause (Palmer) “Granny”, 90, of Ocean City, NJ passed away peacefully Thursday October 20, 2016 at her home. Gloria is pre-deceased by her husband of nearly 70 years, Harry B. Klause, Jr.; Her parents, Emil Palmer and Mary Louise Palmer (Nee Avellino); Her brother, Louis “Bus” Palmer and sister, Lorenza “Ren” Flood (Nee Palmer) and brother-in-law John Flood. Gloria is survived by her two sons, Harry B. Klause III and his wife, Maureen (Nee Breslin); and Louis Gerald “Jerry” Klause and daughter-in-law, Joan Klause (Nee LaCavera). Her grandchildren, Stacey Klause; Karol and husband, Karl Ruf; Holly and husband, Michael Buck; Maryrose LaCavera and Joseph Klause. Her great-grandchildren, Kayla Eisenlohr and Kasey Ruf; Ethan Buck , Eric Buck, Megan Buck and Laura Buck. Nephews and nieces, Thomas Klause and his wife, Karen; Katie Newitt and her husband, Andy; Lee Franc and her husband, Bob; John McCormick, Sally McCormick, Kathy McCormick, Daniel McCormick, Michael Carr and his wife, Annamarie Dion; Bonnie Carr; John Flood and his wife, Cathy. Her caretaker, Comfort.
“Forever 29” Gloria was born on May 11, 1926 in Ocean City, NJ, where she was raised and lived her entire life. She graduated from Mount Saint Joseph’s Academy in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania and The New Jersey College Of Commerce. Shortly afterward, she worked at the Atlantic City Chamber Of Commerce. She was involved with Palmer Chevrolet-Oldsmobile and later in 1977 founded Old Salt Gift Shop at 13th and Boardwalk. During all this time she was the bookkeeper of KFK, Klause Enterprises, Palmer Center, Ocean City Enterprises and PFPK. She and her husband enjoyed many years of boating, golfing and spending winters in Jupiter, Florida. They traveled to many countries near and far; Russia during the cold war to Tahiti. Including a trip to Mexico where she was a guest matador in the bull ring. Gloria was a devout parishioner of St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church of St. Damien Parish and was a past chair lady of the St. Augustine’s Parochial PTA. She and her husband were active members of the community and many charitable organizations, such as Ocean City Exchange Club and Howard S. Stainton Society. She was The Blue Ribbon Baby of Ocean City’s famous baby parade in 1926. The Klause’s were long time participants in Night In Venice and won best in show on their boat, Sting Ray, in 1986. In 2001, Gloria was named Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year by the New Jersey Division of The American Tree Farm System.
Friends may call on Thursday October 27th from 10am until 11am at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church of St. Damien Parish, 13th Street and Wesley Avenue in Ocean City, NJ. To be followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 11am and entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing, NJ.
