Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian won re-election Tuesday, capturing 60.6 percent of the vote at the polls in a validation of his first term in office.

Incumbents Keith Hartzell and Mike Allegretto, and first-time candidate Pete Madden captured the three open seats on City Council, easily defeating two other candidates, Mike Hyson and Eric Sauder.

Unofficial results with 100 percent of districts reporting poll results are as follows.

MAYOR

  • Jay Gillian: 1,943
  • Ed Price: 1,264

CITY COUNCIL

  • Keith Hartzell: 2,214
  • Pete Madden: 2,040
  • Michael Allegretto: 2,003
  • Mike Hyson: 1,103
  • Eric Sauder: 1,089

Results from the Cape May County Department of Elections, which will include vote-by-mail ballots, have not been released yet. The results will not be official until they are certified by the Clerk’s Office — likely by later this week.

The winners will serve four-year terms.

Gillian, Hartzell and Allegretto ran on platforms of continuing major investments in roads, drainage and other infrastructure projects. They also pointed to Ocean City’s fast and efficient relief effort and recovery from Superstorm Sandy.
