As children across the state adjust to the new reality of remote learning, a teacher in Ocean City is taking a unique approach to keeping in touch with her students.

Carrie Merritt, a first grade teacher at the Ocean City Primary School is making her students smile through the magic of the Internet by reading a story each day while dressed up as one of the characters, according to a press release.

Here’s a link to today’s video of Merritt reading Nobody Hugs a Cactus:

“Read Aloud” is one of Merritt’s favorite parts of teaching and she did n’t want it to end just because she can’t be in the classroom.

By recording the Read Alouds each day and uploading them to YouTube, she’s able to not only engage the students, but also maintain some normalcy during these very different times.

The videos are uploaded to the school’s website daily. https://oceancityschools.org/primary/index
