The National Weather Service has extended a Coastal Flood Advisory for Ocean City, Strathmere and nearby coastal areas through 2 p.m. Monday.

A coastal storm, strong onshore winds and rain will combine to cause minor flooding on Monday morning. With another exceptionally high tide predicted for Tuesday morning, the advisory is likely to be further extended.

Water levels are predicted to crest in the hours around high tide on the bay side (Ninth Street Bridge) of Ocean City at 10:15 a.m. Monday. High tide on the bay side of Strathmere near Corson’s Inlet is at 10 a.m. Monday. The NWS predicts a water level of 5.7 feet on the mean low water scale (MLW) for Monday morning. By comparison, the water level reached 5.6 feet MLW on Sunday morning. Visit www.ocnj.us/octides to compare this prediction to other recent and historic tide levels.

The high tide at 10:09 p.m. Sunday night (Jan. 28) is expected to reach 5.4 feet MLW, and the Tuesday morning (Jan. 30) high tide at 10:51 a.m. is predicted to be at 5.7 feet MLW again.

Residents should be prepared to monitor conditions and move vehicles to safe places in advance of high tide. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation. Parking at all municipal lots in Ocean City is free. Parking also will be available at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 20 North Shore Road in Marmora (please read letter from Trinity if you take advantage of this service).

For your safety and the protection of your vehicle and neighboring properties, never attempt to drive through flood waters, and do not drive around barricades.
