An evening of theatrical favorites will come to life as professional members of the Greater Ocean City Theatre Company’s (OCTC) 2015 season join Broadway star Carly Hughes in a salute to Broadway.
“Broadway on the OC Boardwalk” is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, at the Ocean City Music Pier and kicks off the eighth official season of the Greater Ocean City Theatre Company.
After a successful casting search in New York City, Philadelphia and Ocean City, OCTC saw more than 500 actors interested in the company’s annual Broadway series.
Actors appearing in summer productions of “Damn Yankees,” “Shrek” and “The World Goes Round” will share their talents in a casual, fun and extremely entertaining showcase. This “Broadway on the OC Boardwalk” production is a great way to meet the talent that will be performing with the OCTC throughout the 2015 season.
The evening will feature Broadway star Carly Hughes. With eight Broadway shows to her name, Hughes has quickly established herself as a recognizable talent, both onstage and off.
Hughes has most recently starred as Velma Kelly in “Chicago” on Broadway, “Pippin” as the Leading Player and “Beautiful” as Lucille/Lead Shirelle. Other Broadway credits include: “The Book of Mormon,” “Ghost,” “Ragtime,” “Putnam County Spelling Bee” and “The Grinch.” You can also hear her singing all the music in the upcoming movie musical “Lucky Stiff.” She is a recipient of the prestigious Princess Grace Award for Acting. She was raised in Columbia, Md., and now calls New York City home.
Before the show, youth of the Greater Ocean City Theatre Company’s Junior Company will have a chance to take part in a special meet-and-greet with Hughes. The opportunity to interact with a true professional in the industry who understands the value of OCTC’s strong arts education programming is a life-changing moment.
Artistic Director Michael Hartman shared that “having a Broadway veteran like Carly Hughes join us for a celebration is such a thrilling way to welcome our 2015 summer season.”
“I know this will be a fabulous evening of entertainment that will feature something for everyone,” Hartman said.
