Registration Open for “Mr. Mature” Contestants

Entries are open for contestants in the Mr. Mature America Pageant on Sept. 12. Mr. Mature celebrates the achievements of men 55 years and older. The pageant, now in its eighth year, mixes talent, good looks and self-deprecating humor.

Historical Museum Hosts Grace Kelly Lecture

The free Summer Lecture Series by the Ocean City Historical Museum will feature an event celebrating the actress turned princess, Grace Kelly, on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Howard Stainton Senior Center, 1735 Simpson Ave. Delight in the details of Kelly's wedding to Prince Ranier, from the guest list and cake to the dress and honeymoon. This program is being presented by Al Crescenzo, Grace Kelly aficionado, Ocean City resident and retired Philadelphia school district history teacher.

Boardwalk Art Shows and Pops’ Salute to Aretha Franklin Coming Up

The 58th annual Boardwalk Art Show will be held Friday through Sunday, Aug. 6-8, on the Boardwalk between Eighth Street and 13th Street. The celebration of the arts will include a newer event – the Art of Surfing Festival – Thursday to Saturday, Aug. 5-7, at the Ocean City Music Pier. Mayor’s Message: July 30

Mayor Jay Gillian pays tribute to Ocean City resident and World War II veteran Doris "Doie" Barnes on her 100th birthday. The city honored Barnes, a retired Marine Corps sergeant, during a ceremony Friday in front of the Music Pier. "It was fun to hear the crowd join together to sing Happy Birthday, and I’m proud that she is one of our citizens," the mayor said in his weekly message to the public. His entire message follows.

Registration Open for Running Events in Ocean City

Ocean City will be host to three unique running events in the coming months: the OCNJ Labor Day Race on Sept. 6, the OCNJ Half Marathon on Sept. 26 and the Trail of Two Cities on Nov. 6. Registration for all three races is now open. Details follow.

Special Weather Statement: Tornado Watch

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch in effect for Ocean City 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. A line of severe thunderstorms is expected to pass through the region this evening. The formation of tornadoes is possible throughout the region. Damaging non-tornado winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible.

Marine Corps Veteran “Doie” Barnes to be Honored in 100th Birthday...

Ocean City officials and American Legion Post 524 will host a 100th birthday celebration for World War II and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Doris Barnes, known affectionately as “Doie.” The celebration will take place Friday, immediately following the 8:50 a.m. Flag Raising Ceremony at the Music Pier.

Author, Singer Michael Card Appears Aug. 1 at Ocean City Tabernacle

Ocean City Tabernacle welcomes singer, songwriter, author and Bible teacher Michael Card, Sunday, August 1. He will speak during the 8:30 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services and perform live in a free concert at 7 p.m. In a career that took off with his debut album, First Light (1981), Card has recorded more than 37 albums, authored over 27 books, hosted a radio program and written for a wide range of magazines.

Lifeguards Save Woman at 39th Street Beach

Shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday, Ocean City Beach Patrol lifeguards responded to a bather in distress at the 39th Street Beach. A husband standing in waist-deep water alerted guards to his 72-year-old wife, who was face-down and unresponsive next to him, according to a city news release.
