Special Weather Statement: Flood Advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect for Ocean City from 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 through 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10. Strong easterly winds and high tides from a new moon earlier this week are expected to contribute to flooding through three tide cycles.

Soccer Star Summer Reimet Gets Her Kicks, Sets Scoring Record

Kathy Reimet signed up her daughter, Summer, for soccer at age three to introduce her to a game she played and loved. She wanted to give her daughter an opportunity to fall in love with the game, too. Summer took to it like a bee to honey. Now a senior, Summer Reimet became the all-time leading scorer for the Ocean City High School girls soccer team, breaking the record set just last year by Faith Slimmer, who graduated in 2021.

Assemblyman Antwan McClellan Named Citizen of the Year

The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce announced Wednesday that it has named state Assemblyman Antwan McClellan as the 2021 Citizen of the Year. The awards ceremony will be held at the Chamber’s dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 6 p.m. at the Flanders Hotel.

Ocean City Wins Dual Cross Country Meet

On Senior Day, the Ocean City High School boys and girls cross country teams outran visiting Egg Harbor Township to sweep the Eagles on Tuesday. The girls team, led by second place finisher Grace McAfee, defeated the Eagles, 21-37, while on the boys' side, senior Owen Ritti helped lead his team to victory, 17-46.

Fall Block Party, Fireworks and More

Ocean City’s premier autumn event – the Fall Block Party – will go off rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9. More than 400 crafters, food vendors and entertainers will line a mile of downtown Asbury Avenue between Fifth Street and 14th Street. The Block Party helps draw tens of thousands of people to Ocean City for Columbus Day Weekend. Details follow on the Fall Block Party and other special events coming to Ocean City in October.

N.J. Makes Changes to Landlord-Tenant Law

As the summer’s seasonal rental population begins winding down along the coast, the eyes of local landlords and tenants turn to longer lease terms and the benefits that come with living at the Jersey Shore during the “off-season” months between September and May. Recent changes to the law and court procedures in New Jersey, because of the pandemic, will affect how both landlords as well as existing/potential tenants protect themselves and the roof over their heads.
