Shore Medical Center Announces Plans for New Alzheimer’s Treatment Center

Incurable and deadly, Alzheimer’s disease usually kills those who have it in about 10 years, robbing them of their mental acuity along the way. Although a cure has thus far eluded medical science, a new facility opening at Shore Medical Center in Somers Point will offer treatment for Alzheimer’s patients, support for their families and clinical trials of experimental drugs to combat the disease. Shore Medical Center announced plans for the Flora Baker Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Center on Thursday. The facility will be funded by a $500,000 donation from the Ocean City Masonic Lodge No. 171 through an endowment for Alzheimer’s treatment established by the now-deceased Baker, a local businesswoman...

Discovery World Students Meet the OCNJDaily

The students of Discovery World pre-school got a first-hand chance to learn about what news really is. Several members of OCNJDaily's staff joined them for a morning of learning and fun. The school’s owner, Terry Camoratto, organized “Community Helpers” week and highlighted how reading the news can let everyone know what is going on in their community. The students wanted to make sure they knew more important topics such as when Santa Claus would be coming back to Ocean City and when the rides will be opening back up on the Boardwalk...

Mayor’s Update 2/10

I take a tour every Friday afternoon with city team members to check on the status of various projects in the works. I’m happy to report that by next weekend, walkers, runners and bicyclists will be able to travel the full length of the boardwalk. The reconstruction project between Eighth Street and 10th Street is making good progress, and the contractor will have a stretch of completed decking in place along the storefronts. Work to restore the full width of the boardwalk and re-install railings and light posts will continue. The Ocean City Boardwalk is perhaps our greatest treasure, and I want to thank everybody for their patience during this important project.
