Mayor’s Update:

I’m planning a Town Hall Meeting to discuss our 2018 bayside dredging program. I encourage anybody with an interest in the dredging of public or private areas on the bay side of Ocean City to attend. The meeting will be 10 a.m. April 28 at the Ocean City Tabernacle. Representatives of ACT Engineers and the city team will be on hand to provide details on this year’s plans and on long-term initiatives...

Villanova and Jay Wright Have Some Big Fans in Ocean City

Our corner of Nova Nation in Ocean City is one quite familiar to Jay Wright. The head coach of Villanova’s Final Four-bound mens’ basketball team is a longtime OC summer resident and can be spotted around town as frequently as the schedule of a big-time hoops coach allows. At the store or the gym, at the beach or the boards, Jay Wright sees plenty of Villanova flags and T-shirts in OC and is comfortable moving around town. Another local Wright haunt: the tennis courts...

Living Last Supper Performance at the Ocean City Tabernacle

The Ocean City Tabernacle will be hosting St. Peter’s United Methodist Church original rendition of the Living Last Supper on March 29th and 30th at 7pm. The performance, directed by Carolyn Lothian, allows you to understand the viewpoint of the disciples after Jesus' shocking revelation that one of them would betray Him. Eric Johnson will be reprising the role of Jesus for his second year and is accompanied by members of numerous churches, including St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, Second Cape May Baptist Church and Seaville United Methodist Church. The performance is modeled after the Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece “The Last Supper.”

Car Caress Buzzing With Activity After Nor’easters

After four Nor’easters in less than two weeks, Ocean City is getting back to business. For many people that means the business of a clean car. Road salt, the grimy remains of dirty slush, construction dust and plain old dirt are the enemies of a car or truck’s finish. Beyond that, customers at the Car Caress Car Wash at 1635 Haven Avenue in Ocean City seemed to feel a clean vehicle also mean a clean slate after a very hard winter...

Shoemaker Lumbers On As Co-owner Al Neill Retires After 54 Years

It was a day like any other, and yet a day like none other. Al Neill recently slipped the key into the door at Shoemaker Lumber for the last time. Neill, 87, was retiring from the business he bought into almost 54 years ago. Though Shoemaker lumber will continue on as one of Ocean City’s oldest and most respected businesses, it won’t ever be quite the same. “My body was telling me it was time to get out of here,” Al told OCNJDaily during his last day on the job. “This is a young person’s business.” As a result, Neill will be seen a lot more often walking on the boardwalk and riding his bike around town, and won’t be seen much at the iconic lumber yard and hardware store occupying 2.2 acres at 12th and West Ave. since 1902...
