Community Spirit Solid as a (Painted) Rock

An Ocean City couple has inspired a community art project of sorts by decorating the neighborhood with whimsically painted rocks. Charlene and Bruce Twiggs hope that as the summer progresses, neighbors and visitors alike will stop and see the painted rocks and smile, and find inspiration to add their own piece of happiness – one rock at a time.

Goldcoast Sotheby’s International Realty Welcomes Peter Madden to Company

Goldcoast Sotheby’s International Realty announced Tuesday that Peter Madden, the broker manager from Berkshire Hathaway’s Ninth Street and Simpson Avenue office in Ocean City, is resigning his position to take a new opportunity at Goldcoast Sotheby’s International Realty. Madden will be a broker/owner based out of the Goldcoast Sotheby’s International Realty 34th Street office, where he will have a hand in rentals, sales and managing the office.

Cape May County Confirms 15 New Coronavirus Cases

Cape May County reported 15 new cases of coronavirus in the last two days, but no new deaths. Altogether, 594 residents have been infected by the virus, although 276 have recovered and are off quarantine. Forty-seven have died, including 37 residents in long-term care facilities, the county reported.

OCHS Graduation Set For July 7

Ocean City High School announced Tuesday that graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020 will be held July 7 at Carey Stadium. The announcement follows Gov. Phil Murphy's decision to allow New Jersey schools to conduct on-site graduations as part of the easing of coronavirus pandemic restrictions. A statement from the Ocean City School District follows.

Ocean City Features Video Tribute for Memorial Day

Due to social gathering restrictions during the coronavirus pandemic, Ocean City did not hold a live Memorial Day ceremony this year. However, a pre-recorded video of the ceremony has been posted to the “Ocean City NJ” Facebook page and to www.ocnj.us.

Cape May County reported 11 more coronavirus cases on Sunday, but no new deaths. Altogether, the county has had 579 cases and 47 deaths, while 276 residents have recovered and are off quarantine, according to a press release.

As Memorial Day weekend rolled on with visitors in town and newly opened beach and Boardwalk bustling, Ocean City was taking on a look more reminiscent of the way things were in the days before the coronavirus pandemic. For OCNJ CARE, the organization charged with helping local residents severely impacted by the crisis, the needs haven’t changed all that much. However, there could be a faint light at the end of what has been a long, dark tunnel.

Theatre Company Cancels Summer Season

Unfortunately, the old saying “the show must go on” will not apply to the Ocean City Theatre Company’s 2020 season. OCTC has made the difficult decision to cancel its Summer Broadway Series and Music Pier Children’s Theatre Series, it was announced Saturday. “Ultimately the safety of our staff, artists, students and patrons are at the foundation of this decision,” the theatre company said in a press release. The company has suspended all camp/class programming until it can evaluate how the OCTC will offer educational opportunities that adhere to the guidelines mandated by state and local health authorities during the coronavirus pandemic.

Cape May County reported six new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday, bringing the total number to 568 countywide. No new deaths were reported Saturday. Altogether, there have been 47 deaths, including 37 in long-term care facilities, according to a county press release. The county also reported that 276 residents have recovered from COVID-19 and are off quarantine.

Cape May County Reports Two New Coronavirus Deaths

The Cape May County Health Department reported Friday that an 85-year-old woman from Ocean City and a 92-year-old Woodbine man died from COVID-19. The total number of COVID-19 cases countywide is now 562, including 47 deaths.
