School’s Toy Drive to Benefit CHOP a Success

The Ocean City Primary School’s toy drive last month to give children at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, CHOP, special gifts for the holidays was a big success, school officials said. Lauren Gunther, director of Student Services for the district, thanked the Primary School families and Ocean City community for supporting the Preschool Community Outreach Project.

Crowley Wins in First Ward; School Board Fills Three Seats

Ocean City's First Ward voters spoke. City Councilman Terry Crowley Jr., who was appointed to fill an unexpired term, handily won the seat by a wide margin Tuesday night. Crowley, who was unanimously appointed by Council in August, was challenged by longtime residents Donna Swan DeRocher and Donna Moore.

Storms Leave Mini-Cliffs at Some Ocean City Beaches

Coastal storms this fall have left erosion in their wake at beaches in Ocean City and throughout the shore communities. The coastal storms in the offseason leave mini cliff-like cuts in the dunes each year. And then, as is always the case, the beaches are replenished by the city and sometimes with a little help from Mother Nature with shifting winds, Ocean City officials explained. Vertical scarping, as is the term for the chunks out of the dunes, was dramatic in some areas of the downtown beaches Sunday, but particularly at Fifth Street. Sixth, Seventh and Eighth streets also saw erosion during the recent strong storms.

Halloween a Howl in Ocean City

Halloween wasn’t just meant for getting candy while dressed in scary, comical or whimsical costumes. For Ocean City visitors and residents, All Hallows’ Eve meant taking a stroll on the Boardwalk on a breezy, sunny afternoon. Some people even dressed their dogs in costume as they walked on the beach or quickly hopped onto the Boardwalk for a photo op.

“Spook-tacular” Trunk-or-Treat at St. Peter’s Church

There were pirates, superheroes, princesses, ghosts and a pony. Even "the real Batman" made a personal appearance. Yes, it all happened in the parking lot of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, located on Eighth Street in Ocean City, on Saturday afternoon. There were treats galore at the first church celebration of Trunk-or-Treat.

A coastal storm Friday, on the ninth anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, brought nothing more in Ocean City than minor flooding and strong wind gusts.

Halloween Parade Brings Out Ghoulish Fun

Spooky, scary, creepy and kooky, Ocean City’s Halloween Parade gave spectators thrills and chills Thursday night and it was obvious why the event has been a hit for 73 years. The parade traveled down Asbury Avenue from Sixth Street to 11th Street. The event, sponsored by the Ocean City Exchange Club, always attracts big crowds and this year was no different.

Ocean City Chamber’s Welcome Night Brings Out Community

The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Welcome Night Wednesday at the Sports & Civic Center. The event is a longtime tradition that brings the businesses, groups and organizations, community leaders and city officials together with the community. The night opened with a ribbon cutting to celebrate the recently remodeled civic center, located at Sixth Street and the Boardwalk. Mayor Jay Gillian, City Council members, other city officials and children joined for the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon. “On behalf of the city, the Chamber and the community, the Ocean City Sports & Civic Center is back for everyone to use,” Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Michele Gillian said shortly after the ceremony....

OCIS Students Get Ready For “Spooktacular” Halloween Dance

The Ocean City Parent Teacher Association and the city are partnering to give middle school students a very special Halloween dance at the Sports & Civic Center. The dance will be held on Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. It will feature a host of prizes donated by local businesses, a costume contest and, of course, a whole lot of dancing to give seventh and eighth graders at the Intermediate School an exciting and very “spooktacular” time.

Dog Day – All Day – in Ocean City

There were brides and grooms, cowboys, lions, postal workers, an octopus, bumble bees, and even a kissing booth. Yes, on Saturday the Ocean City Boardwalk had them all. Dogs dressed in Halloween costumes for the first ever Humane Society of Ocean City Howl-O-Ween Parade strolled, zigzagged, jogged and made friends. And there were lots of canines – 200 plus, showcasing what made each one special.
