Museum Exhibit in Ocean City Focuses on Wartime Shipwrecks

A new exhibit at the Ocean City Historical Museum will give war buffs a lot to look at, especially when it comes to those interested in shipwrecks off of the Jersey Shore at the hands of German U-boats during World War II.

Gritty and Flyers Caravan Stop in Ocean City

Philadelphia Flyers mascot Gritty made quite the entrance at the Ocean City Sports & Civic Center on Tuesday afternoon. The orange, googly-eyed, paunchy and jovial creature was dressed for the beach complete with a “lifeguard uniform.” The Flyers Community Caravan rolled into town as part of a summer “Shore Tour.” There was plenty for fans to do, including hitting a puck around an inflatable hockey rink, testing out the slap shot target and giving a bungee run a try.

Passengers Rescued From Sinking Charter Boat in Sea Isle

The charter boat Starfish took on water Monday afternoon in Sea Isle City near the Townsends Inlet Yacht Club and had to be towed to safety. Capt. Anthony Garreffi, officer in charge of the Sea Isle Police Department, said the department received a 911 call about the boat.

Shorebreak Café Celebrates Sweet Anniversary

What a year it has been for Shorebreak Café, located in the heart of Sea Isle City. The café, which features delectable, sweet pastries that are as beautiful as they are tasty, celebrated its first anniversary in family-friendly style Monday. The eatery, located at 4002 Landis Ave., offers homemade, freshly baked savory treats year-round. On the anniversary, customers were treated to a lot more. From special confections with a birthday theme, to music, giveaways and even pastry chef hats for the kids, the morning into the evening was just one big, sweet day.

Ocean City Entrepreneur Opens Boardwalk Clothing Shop

Jake Brown has had a busy couple of years. The 25-year-old Ocean City entrepreneur continues to grow his budding clothing line, WoodLuck, and is featuring new items for the summer. And with the recent opening of a shop at Stainton’s By the Sea on the Ocean City Boardwalk, shoppers are able to see in person the quality clothing designed by Brown for comfort and style.

Ocean City Tops Statewide Poll for Favorite Beach

Talk about a hot streak. Ocean City is once again the people’s choice when it comes to favorite beach. In a statewide poll, beachgoers selected the resort town as “New Jersey’s Favorite Beach” for the ninth year in a row.

Juice Pod Opens New Locations to Offer Sweet Treats

When other businesses were thinking about downsizing or closing shop during the COVID-19 pandemic, Danielle Leonhardt did something else with her healthy foods and smoothies company, Juice Pod. She expanded her business — big time. She opened new Juice Pods and partnered with other business savvy people who opened a franchise “pod.” Danielle opened her first Juice Pod in 2016 in Avalon. Then her business grew with the opening of the very successful Sea Isle City location on the Promenade. And now the number tops 12 Juice Pods and counting. While most are in the Pennsylvania area, the latest opened in North Wildwood on the Boardwalk.

African American Quilters’ Pieces Showcased at O.C. Arts Center

Each piece has a message. Each piece is unique. Quilts created by a dozen African American quilters throughout the state are on exhibit at the Ocean City Arts Center. The show, “Stitched Stories: An Exhibition of African American Quilters & Fiber Artists from New Jersey,” opened July 1 and runs through July 29 at the gallery on the second floor of the Ocean City Community Center at 1735 Simpson Ave. It features 20 quilts from a dozen quilters from all over the state. There is no admission charge.

Ocean City Hotel Owner Drew Reilly Dies

He owned the Blue Water Inn. He owned the Ocean Breeze Hotel, and many other businesses. He had an entrepreneurial spirit that inspired others. Drew Riley, of Ocean City, passed away July 3 at just 55. His longtime friend, Jody Levchuk, co-owner of Jilly’s Boardwalk and downtown shops, described him as a person who “flew under the radar," but who had business sense and a quick wit. In addition to the hotels, Riley owned OC Grilled Cheese & Quesadilla Company and Obie’s Beach Hut, named Obie for his beloved dog. Both businesses are located on the same property as Blue Water Inn on Eighth Street.

Ocean City Celebrates Fourth of July in Festive Fashion

The sun was out and Ocean City vacationers and residents were showing their true patriotic spirit with bike parades in the north and south ends of town to celebrate the Fourth of July.
