Giselle and her mom, Christina, and their friends, Alexis Salisbury, 4, and her mom, Stephanie, of Margate, set out on a journey to the first-ever Bayside Family Day on Saturday at the Second Street Marina in Ocean City. From 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., families had an array of activities to enjoy -- from water sports demonstrations, to live music, to food and activities for all ages. The event showcased the city's bayfront and was a major hit.

New Campaign Promotes Safety in O.C.

Some of Ocean City’s best known landmarks are the centerpiece of an enhanced safety campaign unveiled Wednesday by the Ocean City Police Department and the Ocean City Free Public Library. The police department and library joined forces late last year to create a safety awareness campaign that combines free safety-themed items such as key chains and magnets with vinyl-wrapped police trailers that display pedestrian, beach, bicycling and motorist safety tips, Police Lt. Brian Hopely explained.

Whether they will be pursuing a college education in Hawaii or Florida, joining the military, or going into a trade, 315 students representing the Ocean City High School Class of 2019 walked up to get their diplomas Monday wearing their red and white robes for their school colors. And when the graduation ceremony at Carey Stadium was nearly finished, they turned their tassels, tossed their caps, and then there were cheers, hugs and triumph for completing one milestone and turning toward the future.

Juneteenth Gala Honors Black Community

Reflections, honor, legacy and family, those were the words to describe the third annual Juneteenth celebration in Ocean City for what the day means to the community and to the country. On June 19, 1865, enslaved Africans in Texas learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a day that has been celebrated since then, according to the Ocean City Juneteenth Organization. On Saturday, residents poured into the cafeteria at the Ocean City High School to celebrate the historical and cultural legacy of Ocean City’s black community.

Flag Flies Again at O.C. Life-Saving Station

History was made yet again at the Ocean City U.S. Life-Saving Station 30 on Friday morning. A flag flew for the first time since 1915 on Flag Day. “It has been 104 years since a flag flew at the Life-Saving Station,” said John Loeper, chairman of U.S. Life-Saving Station 30. “I think having the flagpole is like icing on the cake.”
