"The Westside: Ocean City in True Color” exhibit at the Ocean City Historical Museum is inspired by a book by Loretta Thompson Harris.

OCNJ AARP Chapter 1062 is inviting the public to its final meeting of the spring and to welcome author and historian, Loretta Thompson Harris.

The meeting will be held at the Ocean City Library, 1735 Simpson Ave., Room 110, at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 19.

In April, Harris, of Ocean City, released her book “The Westside: Ocean City In True Color.”

The book is dedicated to all “Ocean City old timers,” with a goal to accurately record the history of the resilient people of color who chose to make Ocean City their home, according to an AARP news release.

Her research has uncovered stories of a mix of people living in the Westside, African Americans as well as Italian Americans and Native Americans. Additional books are in her future, the release said.

Harris is coming off a successful book signing at the Ocean City Historical Museum and will share with the AARP audience a brief overview of the early history of people of color in Ocean City between 1884 to 1939.
