The Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority is replacing and rehabilitating the force mains that carry wastewater to the treatment plant on the bay at 45th Street. The work will be done on 31st Street from Haven Avenue to Bay Avenue and Bay Avenue from 31st Street to Eighth Street.
Work for the week of Dec. 16 to 20:
As of the end of the day Friday, the contractor’s south crew will have installed new PVC pipe, backfilled and paved to a point midway between 24th and 25th streets. The north crew will have progressed southward and completed the same work to a point immediately south of 16th Street.
From Monday to Friday, the work will continue in the same directions for both crews.
Traffic:
On Monday, Bay Avenue will be closed from 34th to 14th streets. Detours will be established to divert motorists to West Avenue, with police stationed at 14th Street for traffic control.
It is expected that by the end of the week, the south crew will be working north of 24th Street. Once this happens, the closure of Bay Avenue will be between 24th and 14th streets.
