In conjunction with P.B.A. President TJ Mullineaux, Chief Chad Callahan is pleased to announce that the faded double yellow line in front of Police Headquarters has been refreshed and painted blue down the center of roadway in the 800 block of Central Avenue. This blue line symbolizes the City’s support for our Department, and our law enforcement profession as a whole. The Police Community has come under tremendous fire and scrutiny on a national level this past year. It also represents the solidarity displayed within our profession, particularly when a law enforcement officer makes the ultimate sacrifice.  Unfortunately, this ultimate sacrifice has become a common theme across our nation all too often.  To date, 123 law enforcement officers have paid this ultimate sacrifice in 2016.

The THIN BLUE LINE, by definition, represents the police officers role of separating the good from the bad while creating order from chaos. Standing shoulder to shoulder on this line, police officers demonstrate the commitment to all those we protect from those that may want to inflict harm. The ‘thin blue line” originated in the United Kingdom but is now prevalent in the United States and Canada to commemorate fallen and to show support for the living law enforcement community. It symbolizes the relationship of law enforcement in the community as protectors of fellow civilians from criminal elements.

The idea behind the graphic is that law enforcement (the blue line) is what stands between the violence and victimization by criminals and the would-be victims of crime.

The Ocean City Police Departments appreciates the Ocean City Community in recognizing the common ground that we share in making this community “America’s Greatest Family Resort.”
