Deadline for 2020 Census Self-Response Coming Up

As the deadline to respond to the 2020 Census fast approaches, Cape May County residents and second homeowners are urged to go online, to call, or to complete the form sent to them by the US Census Bureau. The deadline to participate as a self-response provider is September 30. Census forms and invitations to complete the 2020 Census were mailed to every household in March; follow-up forms were sent in August.

Sturdy Savings Bank Names New CFO

Lisa Eisele has been promoted to senior vice president and chief financial officer (CFO) at Sturdy Savings Bank, according to a news release. Prior to her promotion, Eisele served as vice president, controller/treasurer for three years for Sturdy Savings.

AARP Chapter 1062 Hosts Election Webinar

Cape May County Clerk Rita Marie Fulginiti will discuss the plans for in-person and mail-in voting for the November General Election during an AARP Chapter 1062 webinar at noon on Sept. 18. Fulginiti is an election official responsible for the preparation of sample ballots, processing mail-in ballots, filing candidates' nominating petitions and certification of countywide election results, as well as other responsibilities. O.C. Aquatic and Fitness Center to Offer Exercise Classes

The Ocean City Aquatic and Fitness Center will offer a fall schedule of outdoor group exercise and indoor water exercise classes to members starting on Monday, Sept. 14. All group exercise classes will be held on the 18th Street turf tennis courts. Members are asked to bring a mask, mat, towel and water. The water exercise classes will be held indoors at the Aquatic and Fitness Center pool. Details follow for two special events.

Ocean City Solemnly Remembers 9/11

The city hosted its annual Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony Friday evening at the headquarters of the Ocean City Fire Department. The message was one of unity and togetherness, drawing on the patriotism that was felt by all in the days after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Mayor’s Message: 9/11 Ceremony

Mayor Jay Gillian is urging everyone to remember the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks as Ocean City joins the nation in observing the 19th anniversary of the tragedy. The city's 9/11 memorial ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday in front of the Fire Department headquarters on the 500 block of Asbury Avenue. "This will be my message for this evening: Be nice, be kind, never forget those lost on 9/11, and never forget the good that followed," the mayor said in a statement Friday.

Ocean City Holds 9/11 Ceremony Friday

Ocean City’s annual “A Day to Remember” 9/11 memorial ceremony begins at 6 p.m. Friday outdoors in front of the Ocean City Fire Department headquarters, between Fifth Street and Sixth Street on Asbury Avenue. All are encouraged to attend and to wear face coverings at all times during the event. Chairs will be set up to maintain social distancing.

Ocean City Halloween Parade Canceled

Ocean City and the Ocean City Exchange Club announced Thursday that the Halloween Parade will be canceled for 2020. The 73rd annual event had been scheduled for Oct. 29. “With N.J. Governor Phil Murphy’s strict prohibition on mass gatherings unlikely to be lifted any time soon and with so much advanced planning necessary for event participants and organizers, making the call now is the only safe decision,” Mayor Jay Gillian said. The Exchange Club of Ocean City is planning to bring back the Halloween Parade in 2021, Parade Chairman Jeff Shirk said.

List of Guarded Beaches for September

The Ocean City Beach Patrol will continue to provide lifeguard protection at nine beaches through late September. Beaches will be guarded from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekends and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.  The list follows.
