Ocean City Gets 5 Inches of Snow and Waits for Record Cold

About 5 inches of snow accumulated in Ocean City overnight Monday into Tuesday, and students got the day off as the Ocean City School District closed schools due to the weather.

Cold air created a light snow, and main roads in Ocean City were cleared quickly and  residents cleared their cars relatively easily.

The sun appeared by the end of Tuesday afternoon, but the snow is not likely to disappear any time soon.

After a relatively “mild” Wednesday with a projected high temperature of 30 degrees, a new arctic blast is expected to send temperatures plummeting.

Thursday’s high is expected to reach only 20 degrees, and the Thursday night low is predicted at -1 degrees in Atlantic City. Records are 4 degrees for Feb. 19 (1903) and 0 degrees for Feb. 20 (1966).

The temperature is not expected to move above the freezing mark until Saturday afternoon, when the high is forecast at 36 degrees. But Ocean City could see a rain/snow mix on Saturday night.

There’s also a chance of snow flurries on Wednesday night.
